  • Ben and I did some more work today. . .

Well, Ben and I decided to take most of the day off to do some work to our cars. . . We decided to shave the most unnecessary peice of equipment on our cars, the antenna. Both of us plan to upgrade to satellite radio in the future, so we welded in patch panels and did all the work right. Here are some pics of our progress. I'll write a nice write-up for those of you who wish to do this, and I should have it posted in a couple of weeks. Here are the pics!

    Before:

    Antennas removed:

    Patch Panels clamped in:

    Me doing a little welding:

Threw some Evercoat on it, these are from after we sanded it down:

    After the primer was done:

I also welded in a patch panel in my Camaro, the quarter panel on the Pass. side was rotted through, so I made a new panel and welded it in, here's the pics.

Before I started the prep work:

After a little grinding and excess metal removal:

    Welding in the new panel:

    Grinding the welds:

Finished product, as the car sits now. I think I did a pretty good job!

That's what my day was like, I'm changing the trans mount for my new Polyurethane mount tomorrow, I'm excited about that. We made a lot of progress, and I think I did a good job for never having welded before, and this is only the second time I've ever made my own patch panels and installed them, and Dad welded the last set in. They were actually floor pans, so much easier. I'm ordering a new set of rocker panels soon, they will be welded in when I get the time to do that, and then I'll update my pics for you all. I hope you all enjoy the progress Ben and I are making, I know we are!

For the record. . . That's NOT ME wearing the plaid shorts. . . That was a friend of mine wearing a shitty pair of pants he didn't mind getting dirty. . . lol
The patch panel I welded in was not welded very well, but I didn't want to warp the panel, which is why it looks so bad. . . lol It's been a terrific learning experience for both Ben and I, and we are hoping to do some more work on our cars within the next couple of days. We will definitely keep you all posted. . .

Yea welding in panels are kinda a pain in the ass. i have done it once and you are right you cant get it to hot cause it will warp it.
although the welding looked a little ruff it should be alright. Looks good

1995 TA Sold. i sure do miss it though.

Maybe on Ben's computer. It's in flat black paint right now, I'm going to order the paint for the whole car probably next weekend, then I'll be getting the car prepped for it's nice new coat of paint. Shouldn't be too long. Also, I'm hoping to get a new powertrain in there soon, I'm going to pick up everything I need for the swap. It's no LT1, but it'll give those cocky LT1 guys a run for their money. . . lol That's all I'm going to disclose about that little project, as I'm not really sure I'm actually going to buy it, it's a bit of a drive, and I dunno if I can fit all of that stuff into the back of my Sonoma. . . I'm excited! Next up are some new rocker panels, as the ones on there are rotted through. Then, I'm going to order some new floor pans and carpet, and I'll weld the pans in, paint the car, get the motor swapped in, and finish the interior the way I wanted to a long time ago. If anyone wants to help out, I'm sure I can put anyone who's interested to work. . . I'm going to replace my trans mount tomorrow, the Polyurethane mount came in today, but it's raining, so I'm going to hold off until tomorrow.
