  • lift off vs. bolt on

Well I got my new car and that 4" cowl hood is just unnecessary, i was thinking a 2 1/2 or something around there for it. The lift off style fiberglass hoods run around $260 and the bolt on style (what i have now) run about $460. Anyone know the pros and cons of the two? I might just see if the stock good will go back on and clear since i like that style better.

Pretty sure the lift off's are alot lighter, but not as strong so that's why they need the hood pins to hold them down cause the supports will warp them or something like that.

Lift off suck unless you have two people around all the time to take it off.
I'm not a fan of aftermarket fiberglass hoods...they all seem to shake and rattle.

when i get my hood it will be a pin on, just for the fact thats its cheaper and i like the looks of the pins (makes the car look tough IMO)

please excuse my spelling... i went to a cathlic school.

i would only use a pin-on for essentially a show/track car. imho, you loose a bit of underhood security with a pin-on.

To me on a street car pin-ons scream "I'm cheap!". I see the need on a full on race car but on a street car they look cheap and cheesy. I'd work on putting the stock hood on if you could. I like those best myself. For some reason cowl hoods just don't look right on Firebirds to me.

Well until he started talking about firechickens not looking good with a cowl hood. Cmon Wade What about mine i know you like it. Show me a pic of a 4th gen other then mine that has a cowl? there isn't.

But anyway i agree pin-ons look like . Bolt on is the only way to go unless your car is a track warrior

yeah i guess i will try for the stock hood, i don't know if it'll clear with my already small air cleaner. If it clears good, but if it doesn't I'm not gonna get a pussy little air cleaner, i'll just get something to use up that annoying 4" cowl, thanks guys

I would try the stock one 1st also myself.
I was looking at different hoods myself. But I cant find anything that looks better then the stock one.

the real part that sucks about a pin on is you can't take the hood off by yourself, ever
