  • Body Kit.... Now what?

It's been my life's dream... well, for the last year or so, to get a body kit for my 02 Camaro. I managed to get one; new from West Wings.

Now, the normal thing would be to go out and find out which body shop will charge me the most, to do the worst paint job, and take the longest time.

Before I dash off to do the "normal" thing, what would you suggest or recommend?

I would suggest seeing if you think you can install it yourself and if you think you can, fit it to your car, actually attatch it, and once you get the right fittment then take it to your local paint shop. I know body shops charge a lot to put on a body kit. If it's eurathane, then i would say try to do it yourself.

      Which kit did you get?

You need better dreams. Most kits aren't that hard to fit unless they're fiberglass and require sanding/filling to make them fit properly. Usually they're held on with self tapping screws and double side tape. You'll want to sand down any mold lines that are on them so it will save you money at the body shop. You'll want a friend or two to help with the install as the pieces are pretty bulky and hard to handle by yourself. I helped Baker5209 put the side and rear skirts on his car at my house. We just cleaned the GFX and the body and suck on the double side tape, then mounted it up and put the screws in and removed the backing on the tape and stuck it down.

I definetly agree with the guys...if you are up to the little challenge...do it yourself. Ive taken mine on and off a few times, and remounted some of it, and as long as you have a friend there to help you hold and line it in plaec, its not too hard. I painted some of mine myself so i was lucky, but i would rather pay to have only paint done than pay for fitting it too

Did I say West Wings? I meant Wings West.

As far as I know they only have one kit (890220) for 98-02.

Once it's been dble-taped down, it's pretty tough to get off ain't it?

I had assumed you got the parts painted and then put them on.
You're saying, mount them up and then get it painted by the most expensive, slowest paint shop I can find. I'm getting it now.

Don't peel the backing off the double side tape. Just hold it in place and drill the holes or use the self tapping screws to mount it where it should go. Once you make sure it fits right, then take it off and have it painted. Find a quality shop in your area to do it. NO Maco is NOT a quality shop..neither is Earl Schieb! I hope your kit didn't include that nasty ricer double decker wing.

                I was soooo tempted....
NO I wasn't. I could go for an SS wing, but that's as high as I would go.

                Thanks everyone!

Nah. Ground effects complete the car. Otherwise they just look like they're missing something.

...and soon we'll have our own web site; mifbodykits.com.
                              Think of all the great "topics" we could have;

                              Body Kit Colors
                              Double Sided Tape
                              Screws
                              ... it's crazy!
