Going to paint my wheels, but would like some opinions.

Most will say buy new wheels. I would if I could. Money isn't growing from the tree in my backyard anymore. But I am moving up, AA might just be giving me a promotion soon, don't know what it will bring money wise but we'll see.

Anyways I'm tired of my salad shooters. Let me rephrase that. I'm tired of how beat up and horrible looking my salad shooters are. I'm going to repaint them but in what scheme?

I was thinking about polishing the outer lip and painting the wheel like a graphite color, not grey, or black, but somewhere inbetween. I'd also leave the centermost part of the center cap black and chrome. It's hard to explain so I'll show off my 7337 photoshop skillz.



Now that I look at it some more, I'm thinking black might look better than the graphite.

You should do the outter lip polish and paint them a gloss blak 2 match ur car.

Same here I am not fond of graphite or black rims on any car for that matter.

The only thing that matches my inconceivable photography skills is my unimaginable nack for painting.



I don't know why the paint came out so textured. I've used high temp gloss black on other things before and they came out relitively smooth. Oh well, I'm not going to wet sand them, too time consuming. I think it looks well enough. This is the first one I've painted so well see how it looks when all 4 are done.

I did it in my basement with my dehumidifier on high. It's nice and cool down here. I also put about 4 light coats on it and gave it about 10 mins between coats from about 8 inches away. This next one I'm doing is also coming out like that too. Oh well, as long as they look alike.

Duplicolor sandable black primer
Duplicolor high heat gloss black
Duplicolor high heat clear

First I really clean the wheels and then I sanded the paint surfaces lightly with 100 grit sandpaper to give the paint something to stick to. Then I put 3 light coats of primer which went on quite smooth. I let each coat dry for about 10 mins. Then 3-4 light coats (depending on how it covers) of gloss black. The first coat looks like it'll be smooth but after the second or third coat that actually covers the wheel it get's rough. Lastly I put 2 coats of clear and that smooths it out some. I actually kind of like how it looks though. I can't explain it but I guess it's how the light reflects on the shiny yet rough surface.

duplicolor that's the problem, you'd have been better off with krylon, duplicolor does good on interior stuff, but the exterior seems to be bottom barrel stuff

i've also never had a problem with duplicolor, in fact its did some good work on parts of my car.

Duplicolor makes textured sprays too... that's almost what that looks like.
