Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone with a bird has ever taken off the door guard strips (Im not sure exactly what they are called) on the side of the car? I feel like it would look cleaner without them. Am I wrong? or should I just leave them on? Your thoughts please

Yeah thats what I thought, I think the moldings distort the image of the car, kind of like a huge wart on someones face. Looks like im takin em off! How would I go about doing this without taking paint off? do I heat it up?sigpic"Dont hate....on a W68"

Yea you can heat it up with hair dryer. Buy some fishing line and just "razor" it off,
rub off the double side tape with your thumbs (some fbodies I did were piece of cake, others had very sore thumbs after)
And from there just clean it up.

Heres another reason why I'de like them off...they look burnt or rusty like the clear coat wore off and the sun had its way with it. The rest of the car is fine just the molding are bad. I also added an extra picture just for fun

For some reason I like them on the T/A's
Not long after I took them off my IROC, my nephew slammed a door into the driver door. LIVID doesn't even fit how I felt. I'm a huge stickler for clean, straight, OEM parts. The few remaining OEM doors (NOS) in the country are almost $900
I would never pull them off a DD

I can see both views, but if you see my picture I posted earlier, the moldings are kinda rusty or burnt, I cant justify repainting and reapplying them, but I suppose I should keep them anyways just to have in case I decide I want to have them put back on? I don't know but they'r coming off, lol.sigpic"Dont hate....on a W68"

Yes, they do have to come off
I have the same issue on the 2002 Silverado. UV damage.
If a shop charges you more than $200 I would be surprised.
Edit: Then again, 4th gen doors aren't metal like 3rd gens. Paint probably will not match after you pull them.
