  • Replacing stock gauge cluster on 97' camaro

    Hey guys,

Does anyone know if its possible to replace our stock gauge cluster with some autometer electric gauges ( getting them to fit is a different problem) or is the whole thing too "computerized"

I was thinking a aluminum panel replacing the stock cluster with holes for the gauges but I need to know if everything will just wire up to the senders or what, since the cluster is one big unit that just plugs into a connector in the back.

i dont think you can, the cluster is all one piece and gets one plug in it. i think. so i dont think you can wire in a new cluster

John (wasjo) swapped in new gauges when he did an engine swap with a totally different engine, but he might know enough about the gauges to know whether or not they'd work?

yeah hes got the carbed 350 so probably no computer. you could hook the gauges up old school that would work.

You can do it, it will be a complex wire job. Nothing like plug and play though. Ive seen some cool setups in the past.

as far as i know your gunna have to run all new sensors on the engine and everything if you want to swap guages. at one point i thought a company was doing some clusters for the 3rd gens but nothing for the 4ths. inside the cluster on the 4th gens is a relay logic setup along with some ICs that are needed tu run what signals that are sent form the ecu to the cluster
