  • Project Blackout: BLS Projectors, DDM HIDs, Corners, Markers, etc.

Even though it's been done a billion times, I absolutely love the look of a red base with blacked out trimmings. This thread will serve as my log for exterior modifications that complete the overall "look" I'm going for.

I've been waiting for someone to come up with a solid projector housing so that I can properly install HIDs on my car without blinding people on the road with stray light. No offense to anyone that has them, but the ones on eBay all seemed rather cheap and/or overdone with halos, LEDs, etc. that really serve no purpose. Enter Blackbird Lighting Solutions and their modified DEPO housings with bi-xenon projectors:

The fit and finish of these lights are PERFECT. Absolutely no problems with them going in. My DDM Tuning HID kit with 4500k H1 bulbs I purchased a while back fit just fine and wired up very quickly. I thought the whole thing was going to take significantly longer to wire up, which is why this stuff wasn't on for the Dyno session this past weekend. Also for those that don't know, bi-xenon projectors have a solenoid actuated low beam shield that can be lifted out of the way when you hit the high beams. A very nifty invention that works quite well (my Volvo has them stock too).

    Lights on:

Finally, an Instagram picture of the light output which is completely out of whack thanks to the hipsterish filter I used:

In reality, there's a really nice cut line being produced by them. I will get better pictures next week with my SLR camera when I get the car off the lift again. I'm currently waiting on some catalytic converters to come in before I pull the car out of the garage. I'm just happy that I can now feel comfortable driving my car during the night AND I'm not putting lives at risk with stray light. That alone justifies the purchase of the lights to me.

            BLS/DEPO headlights - $325.00 from an LS1tech GP:

            http://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-gr...ht-gp-2-a.html

DEPO corners and markers - $45.00 eBay

            DDM Tuning H1 35W 4500k slim HID kit - $35.00

So $405.00 so far. Not bad considering the safety aspect of the project. Driving my car home the first time on October 31st, 2008 from Indiana was a scary ride. The stock headlights were all hazy and the light output from them was extremely dim. After having HIDs on the Volvo, I'm never going back to incandescent, so I will spend the money to keep myself and others as safe as possible on the road.

ive yet to run HIDs on my cars, but i had them on a bike, its amazing how much safer you feel driving at night with good headlights.
              looks great BTW

Nice! Please put up some more day and night pics of these. I was checking them out previously, and for $405 to have those and HIDs- well, I don't think that's too bad at all really. I'm thinking projecters/HID's with a body-colored whistler mod on my light pewter car would look great - and, I agree about the halos. Don't like them very much on the F-Body. Some cars look good with them, but they just don't look right to me on the 4th Gen.
