    My Autocross Firebird

    The time has finally come to get Sonic repainted. Today was just the prep for the paint, which will be getting done next week. I am sticking with the Metallic Navy Blue since the majority of it is that color. I am having a friend of my family do the all the work and this is what he has done so far today. A bit of sanding and bondo for some very minor dents/creases. Come to think of it, these are the first pictures of my car that I actually took/posted so far. Now you know what my car looks like

    The car is already lowered a bit, and am waiting on rear LCA's and panhard bar. I have thicker front and rear ARB's and will be getting a new to this car rear axle with 3.23 limited slip diff. That open diff is killing me on the course! Big thanks to MunsterZ28 for the subframe connectors which will help keep any new creases from showing up in my quarter panels. I plan on welding those in after it gets painted.

    Lastly I am getting newish rims put on. They are the C5 "wagon wheels." I know that many people don't really like these on fbody's but I personally think they look really nice. It was a picture of a blue trans am with them that convinced me to get them. They will be wrapped in some Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance tires. 255/40/17 on the front and 275/35/18 on the back. I will post updated pictures when everything comes together in the following weeks. Maybe then someone may concede that the wagon wheels do look good on an fbody?

    Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the autocross at the Silverdome on the 6th, but definitely will be there on the 28th. Hope to see some of you there!

      Nice work!!! You should remove the molding an emblems from the doors before paint. Thats the right way to do it, you wont regret it later.


      Where are you finding the info about auto-x at the dome? I went on SCCA's site i see nothing about it... but I am definitely interested in going!

        www.motorsportsreg.com. It gives you a list of all region scca events. You can pre-register and prepay from there as well.
        The first one of the season is May 6th at the Silverdome, as well as the next two May 28th and June 23-24. Belle Isle is July 22nd.

        Thanks for the info about the molding. I wasn't too sure about whether I should leave those on or off. I'll take those off and sand it down before it gets picked up for paint.

            I would pull the rear lights and marker lights before paint as well. It won't take much time and you will have fewer tape lines.

              Im not painting it. The guy who is has 17 years of experience, and unfortunately I am not going to be around to help him take these parts apart. I have to drive it to his place, and then he takes it to the shop to paint it. He is doing it after-hours per se. After he picks it up this weekend, I have to go to work, but I fully trust him doing a properly good job painting it. I will probably give him the tool/mention the lights to make his job easier. Thanks for the tip!

                It only takes a couple seconds to pull those and the tailights, im sure he was planning on it if he has any idea what he is doing and sounds like he does

                  Quick update. It went out to paint yesterday and got this picture from the painter. I should have it back tomorrow and then its time to buy tires and the diff.

                      Little update

                      I got my rims and tires mounted. I will be getting my new differential within the next couple weeks. I got the tires and rims mounted and I couldn't be happier. I do like the way the "squareness" of the rims sort of contrasts the smooth flow of the body, my personal taste. The paint still needs to be wetsanded, and I will wax and detail it before it goes out again. Here are a few of the quick snaps I took after mounting the new tires and rims.
