  • recovered my headliner today!

headliner.jpgI got an ABS plastic backing from a junkyard for $50 bucks ( I don't think they knew what they had as they priced it the same as the stock backings) and recovered it using 3M yellow superduty trim adhesive and stretch vinyl upholstery. It's not perfect but much better than the tan that was in there before.

Thanks guys, All I need to do now is fab up a center console and the interior will be done.

Joel- I keep reading that the ABS ones can have fitment issues. Luckily I pulled mine from a Junkyard and saw how it fit before taking it. All of the stock ones were ruined from windows being busted out and rained on at the Junkyard, so when I loosened this one up and felt that it was plastic, I was excited. Fortunately, the guy at the yard had already quoted that anything with a good backing was $50. The plastic ones cost 250 new and not much cheaper when you find them used.

It's not difficult to do. The more patient you are and let the adhesive get nice and tacky before applying the fabric, you'll get a better bond. I started at the back where the most bends are and just did small sections at a time. I let it set over night and so far it's still looking good. Now I just need the camaro to make the 3 hour drive to my garage so i can put the headliner in it!

                    Thanks again for the comments,

                    Lewis B.
