  • Cleartastic, Protective Plastic sources?

Don't really know how to title this thread. I was wondering if you guys knew anything about the what I consider "protective plastic" for cars. What I am talking about I guess I notice mostly on corvettes. It's like they have plastic type sheets you can put on certain parts of your car to protect from rock chips and what have you. I was just wondering if there was a source for some of this that is maybe not corvette or other car specific. I need something for the rear quarters behind my tires on the bu and personally don't want to put mud flaps on it. Let me know your thoughts, I can try to clarify if it really doesn't make sense. Thanks!

basically the stuff listed in the link below, but possibly more of a general sheet and not precut kit or anything, also any input on brands or usage experience would be great.

I know 3M makes a product called "clear bra"... might want to search for dealers/installers in your area that carry it.

Am I looking at the website correct that they only have locations in 5 states?? holy cow, seems like that is more of a custom install situation. I was hoping for something I could buy in a roll, cut and install myself (hopefully)

Indeed they do, Although they use Avery Denison these days.

You can buy it in rolls as well as kits. There are a TON of different brands that make it. It's usually called Clear Bra, or Paint Protection Kits if you're doing a google search. X-Pel, Llumar, 3M, Avery, are just 4 brands I can think of off the top of my head.

On my F250 I did from the Body Side molding down in clear bra so that my tires don't rock chip the crap out of it. I believe I have a roll of it in bulk somewhere (unless I used it all, I can't remember)

A lot of new GM vehicles are coming with it duley trucks on the fenders, terrains on the lower front, regals have it on the rockers. Its wicked cool stuff, seems very durable.

It just seems like a logical idea so I don't have to be so fearful of chipping up my overpriced paint job, Thanks for the input everyone, I'll have to keep google searching and try to find a roll of it somehwere

This kind of stuff just floors me. Why make your car ugly just so the paint doesn't chip. How many people put one of those ugly bras on to keep the paint from chipping, but when the bra came off the paint was f'ed up from the abrasion from the bra. Or the "gravel guard" that was mixed into the paint for lower quarters. Looked like crap, but it wouldn't chip. who cares how nasty it looks. If you want to keep it perfect, keep it in the garage.
