My friends asep teacher at my local community college painted his whole plate black and white on the letters, on his c6 and he never gets pulled over... i mean i don't see why its illegal, the letters, the word "Michigan", and the reg sticker are all still the reflective none tinted paint and are visible...

I got pulled over last year, with a tinted cover on. The officer told me that it's illegal to have anything covering any part of your plate. Which includes the frames that are sometimes installed by car dealers, according to MI law. I didn't get a ticket, showing how well that law is enforced. You can get pulled over for it, if the right cop sees it, though.

I have a black frame around mine and a slight tint on mine, also the screws are those that you need a special tool to even remove. The main reason I like the cover over the plate is just to keep it clean and protect the tag from being stolen. I have been pulled over for many things but never for the plate cover. I am sure some dick will now pull me over on the way home today just because I said something.

i think it depends on the car myself, yeah some dickhead cops will still mess with you but if the car is a "nice" enough car, its supposed to have stuff like tinted windows, loud exhaust and subtle mods like this to make them stand out. this coming from an officersigpic

Thanks Mike, had no idea you were an officer. I think I'm going to draft up a design in CAD and see if a waterjet place can help me out. 1/16" plate steel should be fine and I'll notch the corners out so I can break the edges down then weld the seams shutOriginally posted by Formula Z View Posti think it depends on the car myself, yeah some dickhead cops will still mess with you but if the car is a "nice" enough car, its supposed to have stuff like tinted windows, loud exhaust and subtle mods like this to make them stand out. this coming from an officer2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird
