  • how do you remove window tint?

so the window tint on my hatch is positively hideous. it has turned purple with age and i really want to get it off and since i dont want to spend $100+ bucks to have it done, i was wondering if anyone knew how i could remove it by myself with ease.

peel off as much as you can, then hit the remaining glue with amonia and a razor blade. glass cleaner works too. itll take some work - not exactly a fun job.

Joel is right, not fun at all but peel it off as best you can, then use "goo gone" to get the glue off. It will take a while, put the goo gone on a rag, soak the remaining tint / glue every ten minutes, it should come off after that.

well, i used a steamer to remove the tint on my windows and it worked great. however, when i tried it on the hatch i had no luck. the curved surface screwed it up i guess. every time i try to peel it back nice and slow, it always rips.

Don't use a razor on the back window if you have rear defrost! The razor blade can and will scrape off the defroster and ruin it and the only fix is a new rear window, that being said use the products mentioned above.

I attempted this for an hour. Then gave up and bought a new hatch for 20 bucks.

The best thing I found, was to have the rear defrost on, have someone with a hair dryer on the outside and you on the inside picking it off. Of course all it takes is one tiny scratch and you can mess up the defrost lines.

            Good luck.

I have a small steamer that I have used in the past. I would gladly let you use it if you were closer. Note for someone in the west michigan if you need this. Wish I could help more. Eric L
