As far as I know, tint can be a moving violation, and you can get points for it...

I'm definitely getting a doctor's note when I get mine...and driving with the windows down.

Depends where you got pulled over...
Municipalities can set their own bylaws on tint % on the back windows (and other laws too)

Incorrect. Tint is an equipment ordinance, not a moving ordinance. You cannot get points for tint.

Incorrect. Municipalities can only do this for moving ordinances, not equipment ordinances.

For the record, I am not an attorney....but I do work for a law firm. I have instant access to this stuff (although you can find most of it on the internet pretty easily).

I was told by a Royal Oak police officer (who was older, probably has been on the force for a while) that you can get points for it it if you fail to remove it. But I guess he was wrong?

not doubting you but i was under the impression they could basically do it for any law...

Alright, I goofed a little on the municipal code portion. Here's a link to Michigan's uniformity of civil law definition:

                      http://www.legislature.mi.gov/%28S%2...ND%20authority

257.605 Applicability and uniformity of provisions; local laws and regulations; payment and allocation of civil fines; issuance of more than 1 citation; equipment violations; definitions.
                      Sec. 605.
                      (1) This chapter and chapter VIII apply uniformly throughout this state and in all political subdivisions and municipalities in the state. A local authority shall not adopt, enact, or enforce a local law that provides lesser penalties or that is otherwise in conflict with this chapter or chapter VIII.

Translation: This means that ANYTHING in Chapter 257 of Michigan's law CANNOT be reversed by municipal code.
