  • My New HeadLights! HIDs!!!

well as most of ya know, i have always had the "blue halogen" headlights...they look kinda cool, they make the entire housing reflect blue (like in my sig picture) but they are actually worse then stock yellow halogen bulbs...and it makes for a hard time driving at night with my tinted windshield...and when it is raining out...forget being able to see....

so my buddy mike that i work with (has the trailblazer SS) went ahead and ordered us both true 8000K HID headlights for our lowbeams...they are sweet....i cant wait for tonight! they are sweet when you turn them on, the flicker a little and just start getting brighter and brighter! i am now one of those ******* drivers with the bright lights! so watch out guys!

and my buddy mikes new TrailBlazer SS...these trucks are kick ass!!

Your buddy Mike ordered the HIDs that aren't certified and I can GARAUNTEE if the NHTSA looked into it, they'd RECALL those headlight kits. The quality is horrible! Look at that glare!

Sorry, Matt, but I'm a total advocate for NOT putting HID bulbs in a halogen housing (it's the WORST thing you can do] :thumbsdo: One of my biggest pet peeves is the jerks on the road that absolutely blind you from the hotspot and glare produced from putting an HID bulb in a halogen housing, and now you're one of them.

well i aimed them a bit better, and i drove around tonight with 'em, and i didn't have any problems. i really like them. and the glare isn't bad at all...because my friend mike was coming down the road in his TB SS and i was going the other way in my car, and neither of us were "blinded" or anything. it just puts out a lot clearer light....

yeah that's how i would tell if a friend was coming the other way down the road at night was because of the Blue Headlights...now Jason has the whole greater WB/Keego/Sylvan covered in them...time to switch it up.

they actually don't glare at all like Brian says. the camera just makes it seem that way. mike and i drove opposite ways towards eachother down greer and it wasn't any different looking then an Escalade or anything coming down the road....

maybe, but i know he's in bed already. we split up around 11:30, and i went to a small social gathering with jaime, then i came home because my mom called me in histerics because she thought my dog ted was dying. we think he had a sezier (sp?) he was screaming then passed out on the floor, woke up and was all panting and stuff now he's acting weird.....14 years old and he's still kickin though.... wow

Mike usually sticks to the TrailblazerSS.com forum he just got a magnaflow for his truck today too...we're dropping it off tomarrow to get it put on

Hate to say it, but Bri is 100% correct on the government perspective...that would be, IF they could force a recall.

Almost all of the headlamp/taillamp conversion kits out there are absolute junk, but because they're considered aftermarket-owner-installed, the same rules don't apply that OEMs have to suffer through. There is little to no quality control as they're ususally Chinese copies, and the only spec they have to comply to is the light cut-off point from the reflector in the lamp. But most of the time, that component doesn't change with the plug-n-play conversions.

I don't know about F-body headlamps, but if you put a HID kid into a Bonneville headlamp, it will melt.

There was a lawsuit 2 years ago against a California based manufacturer of the "Euro" style clear-chrome taillamps because they could catch on fire, but there has to be a serious safety reason for the gov to get involved with aftermarket companies.

Hope I'm wrong, but I give you a 50-50 chance of replacing those within a year.

Well, the NHTSA has actually inspected 25 HID "kits" and all 25 have been recalled. So there is a national agency (don't ask me what NHTSA stands for) that does investigate these products, and so far all have been horrible. If you want true HID, you need projectors and ballasts and all that. What Matt really has is just bright bulbs.

For sake of making my point... if you look at your garage pic, the glare is only so wide because you're close... the farther away from the garage, the more that glare spreads out. You just got high power flourescent lights, not HIDs.

                            True HID:
