  • Dressing up an LT1

What have you guys done to dress up you LT1? I need to clean the engine compartment on the wifes Formula and want to add some sparkle. Billet rocker covers and some chrome brackets are easy and I will probably polish up most of the aluminum intake and other bits.
Just curious as to what can be done without a lot of tear-up.
I just pieced together an FIPK for the car and will be going after some of the grunge with simple green.

check the pics of my red 97 ss in sig. All I did was polish the top of the intake. Powdercoated the valve covers black, and just overall cleaned the engine compartment. IMHO simple and clean is where its at. You dont want to go to flashy with these engine compartments or you just end up playing nurse maid to an engine, lol. Hope this helps, Eric L

well its a small suggestion, but i got rid of that stupid plastic throttle body guard. Makes revving the car from under the hood easier too

Theres really not a lot you can do without taking things apart.

i think if you have a weekend off. i would pull the alt off. and spray that red to match the car, pull the intake and paint that to match the car and once is completely dry take a scotch brite pad and shine up the top. hand polish the TB and the valve covers would look really really really really good IMHO. less money but put a little more time into it yourself

Thanks guys. I was looking at the car tonight and am in agreement that keeping it simple will look better. I HAVE to do something with the alternator and it's bracket. I will polish the intake and I think I will get a set of cast aluminum rocker covers. They are cheap enough that I can't see putting a lot of time into the stockers. I think cleaning up the wiring and doing a little paint matching will do wonders under there.

X2 you have to pull the Power steering, plug wires, and a/c to get that bracket off. lol

I polished my alternator, AC lines, and condenser. That alone made it look like a million dollars. Also clean up any ugly looking bolts etc

No plans to take it off. It can be polished or painted right where it sits.
The biggest yank I have with the engine compartment is the flat red fenders. I think my biggest undertaking will be prepping and painting those. I will probably re-route most of the wiring also to tuck it out of sight.
Thanks guys, any more insight would be appreciated.
