I wouldn't do that. I would just buy some and swap them out, then you have the stockers still if you want to switch back, plus the red ones in the rear would not look right painted lightly because they are red and some of the red will show through same goes for the amber ones in front. trust me its $60 well spent.

what I mean by the bulbs is that you need to have red bulbs in the rear to legaly drive it around ,because the stocker has a clear bulb with red lense. so if you transfered the bulb into a smoked clear plastic housing . it would just flash clear. you would also need to pickup amber bulbs for the front for the same reason.

also painting them (paint over already colored plastic) it going to have terrible visibility and be less transparent than the manufactured ones. besides the paint is not guaranteed to be even, and may leave a slightly textured surface.

    just DON'T paint them

    what you need to buy

pair of red bulbs for the rear ( available at local auto parts store)
pair of amber bulbs for the front (also available at local parts store)
got my bulbs at murrays the store can just look up the bulb number for you and just tell them the color you want.

and then just buy this kit

any questions, just ask....I can even walk you through the install if need be

That's ****ing sweet Kyle! Well, car may be going in a whole different direction, sort of..lol Chris(painter) ran some ideas by me today, told him I wasn't sure, would really have to see it PS'd or something.. So, end result, he is going to paint the hood, if I like the idea, it stays, if not, he paints it back to how it is now(no charge). He also came up with some other interesting ideas, we are going to do them one at a time, if I don't like it he will paint it back the way I want it.. So, I guess i can't go wrong.. Oh, my car was autographed by Terrance Taylor from the Carolina Panthers. He was very interested in my car, said he would love to have it, but was afraid he would kill himself in it.. He is a friend of Chris's.. Here's his auto...lol
