  • Bumper Paint

Okay, so it's for my Cobalt, but I need to figure out what type of paint I should use for my bumper.

I want to paint the little downward sloped section next to my exhaust tip cutout black, for a nice little added touch.

    Vs. stock:

So, I'm trying to determine what type of paint to use - I'm thinking I'll need something made for bumpers or plastic, with a flex agent? I can get a can of black GM bumper touchup paint (rattle can) for $8, but is there something...cheaper that'll look just as good? Can I just use regular paint, or will that crack?

    Thanks!

You are going to want the bumper paint.

With the Michigan weather and constant temp. changes we have regular paint will flake and come off.

Make sure you prep it right with a light sanding and cleaning agents or even the best paint will flake.

Just get the flex agent to add to the paint and if needed flexible primer. You'll be fine.

Would something like Krylon Fusion work well?

I guess I misunderstood my friend - the stuff was just black touchup paint, but he said they use it on bumpers too...

I would just buy an automotive paint or something at meijer, if its prepped right it should work. Question though, do you even see that piece when you are standing next to the car? Seems like a pain if you can't even really see it. I can see where it makes sense on the vettes and the CETA mod on TA's but that seems like a tiny spot wayy down there.

It's not huge, but it's visible.

So you think I could just get some gloss black Duplicolor and it should be okay?

What am I looking at as far as prep goes?

I'd just do gloss black duplicolor.

              - Sand the section with a medium grit sandpaper - you don't want to scratch it but you also want to rough it up enough that the paint will adhere.
              - Spray that section off with "Adhesion Promoter" which is usually found next to the automotive paint at Murrays or Auto Zone.
              - Spray the duplicolor - remember, many light coats > one thick coat with runs in it
              - If you choose to do so, spray with clear coat for added protection.

Kyle, try and use something other than duplicolor if you can find it. After dealing with alot of paint and bodywork the last 3 or 4 months, Ive come to realize, duplicolor blows. Dang near anything is better. Ive switched to PPG for my colors and dupont for my clears.
