the center is like rubbery vinyl.. i'm not sure you could get paint to adhere to that w/o cracking or peeling when you toched it.

ive given it some though too, but the type of material (ABS i think) it is would be real hard to paint. Im sure there are ppl that have done it, but since it is flexible, the paint would crack easy, and chip off. Maybe you can dye it, or wrap it, unless you can find a good way to get the paint to not crack.

its not vinyl most likely its a thin layer of polyethaline with foam underneath.. atleast thats what we are using for most of gm center councils now... its pretty much rubber... i do have some paint at my work for it if you wanna try it... ill grab you a little.. test a spot... but even the stuff we paint doesnt last.. i would say rip that off and then toss some filler on the top smooth it out and paint it... gonna be the only way the paint is going to stick around.. unless your gonna wrap it like brian did... im sure there is some kinda silver or metalic wrap like the carbon fiber he used...

your best bet is getting a can of leather/soft vinyl paint. I painted mine black, but couldn't get it too dark simply because of how soft it is. And I doubt you'll ever get a gloss finish because no gloss will ever cure.

yeah painting won't last, that's what I did. I wrapped it because the paint didn't last... and even then the wrap doesn't last because it's too soft, you need to fiberglass it and make it stiff, then wrap or paint.

alright i took it off and i have it on my lap right now, and it looks like if i took off the rubber mold, i could make plaster cast of it. My question is fist off can you pour plastic into a plaster cast. b/c if i could make a plastic mold of the rubber one that would work great.

on the other side if i did fiberglass does anyone have a tutorial of this??

you could pour it in but im guessing its pretty thin... the problem will be the plastic/fiberglass/or whatever you end up using will have to be just as thin to fit back over the frame of it... and its not going to be flexible like the rubber and will probably crack easy...

is there foam underneath of it? or a space between the rubber and frame even a litte? if there is foam under it pull it off and you could try to put the rubber back on... get a nice bottle of apoxie or liquid plastic resin and just fill between the plastic frame and the rubber cover... take the rubber off then sand it smooth, that would get the basic shape established

I have to agree with Vince, I don't plan on doing much to the interior, maybe except for mounting my CB back in

i personaly dont like painting all the vents bright colors and carbon fiber all over the place, but to each his own, but i've seen it done just down the center gloss black on a black T/A and loved it, it reminds me of the high end sports cars (corvette) with the body color almost as if extending into the interior.

ive been searching all over and cant find a good answer. I know if i could make the mold it would be strong enough its just a problem of accualy makeing the mold, due to the negative angles i have yet to find my answer.

anyone know of a tutoiral of useing the fiberglass on it

If you do paint it I think if you get a good clear coat over the color to protect it it will last longer but the oils from your skin will crack and discolor it sooner or later.
