  • Engine Bay Opinions

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately on what I want to modify and where I want to go with my car for the future. Right now I'm taking a look at the engine bay to see where I want to go. This is where I want your opinions.

My engine bay was completely redone the right way by being painted and cleared professionally when the engine was removed. Although I don't have super recent pictures, right now I have all the wires hidden on the passenger side, hood cable rerouted, air tubes removed, mirror aluminum covers over the fuse boxes, PCM, battery cover, coolant cap, and brake fluid reservoir. To add I have corvette frcs and a carbon fiber lid.

I've always thought less is more and I don't want to ever modify it to the point of being ricey, overdone, or cheap looking. Lately I've been debating just going back to how the car was when I bought it, with all of the factory ws6 parts in mint condition. factory plastic lid, no metal covers, factory mint AC Delco Battery, and just leaving the corvette FRC's on.

What do you guys think? Do you appreciate the engine bay with all the factory parts in mint condition or do you like it with some more flare and covers and such? If you like the flare, where do you think I could improve the engine bay? I've already considered getting mirrors that fit on the underside of the hood to reflect the clean engine bay.

Here are a couple pictures, one is my car when I got it, and the other is this spring before the wire rerouting mods I did, mirror PCM cover, and bird under the mifbody decal, any input/constructive criticism would be appreciated!!

        I like the top picture.

If you could get the FRCs to say "Trans Am" that would be awesome.

not bad but personally i'd ditch the corvette Covers for something else.
Its not a corvette so I wouldn't have done it.

But like larry get some red wire loom and start covering up stuff you want, and get a different plate for the air intake, along with the fuel rail covers.

So valve covers can be painted, wire looms, different Fuel rail covers besides corvettes are nice but kinda boring, and the air intake part.

Looks clean!!Nice job!! I find that you can't please everyone so do what you think you'll want to live with. The only thing is if its a collecter edition, firehawk etc. I would keep stock.Heres my bay, going to hide nitrous this winter but hooked up to try out and hide holes from fuse/relay relocation. Also relocating battery and the traction control module(black module throttle cable goes to)waiting to work on engine detailing until heads and cam goes in.The only thing is the covers having corvette on them maybe some way to shave off and fill?

definately wont be doing wire looms. My wires are hidden now anyway. I should get some updated pictures to give ya'll a better idea. As for the fuel rail covers I definately agree with you there. The car came with those on there so I just left them. Specialized stainless makes a stainless plate that covers up the corvette letters, I could then place a "trans am" vinyl decal over the stainless. Otherwise I could buy frcs that have the corvette filled in and they are painted, I never wanted to do that because I thought painting the factory plastic pieces would make it look sort of tacky? I dunno though, have to look into that some more. And what do you meen by plate for the air intake? I dont think I have a plate? Its a lid? lol

Thanks for the comments guys! definately keep them coming.

That engine looks damn clean. I'd be shooting for that right there.

Ditch the stainless polished covers and I think you will have a really nice looking set-up. Clean detailed black plastic looks better than those cheesey covers anyday. Or just sell the car

Do they have tinning available where everything is stainless, excpet for the motor? Kind of like it's cased within the engine compartment. I like that look on the 3rd and older gens. Always wondered what it would look like on a 4th.

I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to ditch the stainless covers on the power steering and battery - those are a PITA to keep clean... and my battery cover is already scratched to all hell from the dust that accumulates.

You want to clean it up? I can see if I can put you in touch with my buddy who hid EVERY wire under the hood and relocated the fuse boxes, pcm, and abs under the dash, also ditched the heat/ac you wouldnt believe how much room is there, #7 and 8 plugs just became the easiest. That is a clean engine bay.
