  • Paint removal from plastic

What would you use to remove the paint off the front and rear bumpers of a 3rd gen.I want to completely remove the paint rather than paint over it.

I believe there might be a stripper on the market that is safe to use.......Could I ask why you would want to do this vs a good sanding and respray??

I would call a local body shop and find out what they use.

A hammer. Spiderweb the paint, and chip it off.

            Nevermind, that's a bad idea.

Be careful using stripper...you need to make sure the brand you are using is safe to use on plastics, otherwise you'll be buying new bumpers all together.

I know they make a special product just for bumper covers....I just don't know the name of it right of hand. I would try contacting a local parts store (and not some place like AutoZone...a true parts store) they should be able to direct you to the proper product.

SEM makes an aerosol bumper stripper. You'll have to go to an automotive paint supply store to get it, and I have know idea how it cost either. I need it at work I order it, work pays for it that is all I care about.

So, if I were a douche, I could run down a parking lot and spray that at people's bumpers?

...that stuff shouldn't be available to the public...

(I'd never do that, I hate doing anything that involves messing with someone's vehicle)

I just don't want everything to have seven or eight coats of paint on them.

That makes sense then, I was thinking it was just the factory paint you wanted stripped. FOXKLLR (Chad) is right on about the aerosol stripper.

Good luck and don't forget to post pics of your progress!!
