    Sail Panel Bubbling Fix

    Well, the new car has the dreaded sail panel bubbles coming up all over on the top, at first it looked like some dried waterspots with some dirt, but after putting it out on a hot day and seeing the glue ooze out in dots in perfect lines along the sale panel on each side I want this fixed. Ive done my research and it sounds some dealers just fix it no questions asked and some stand strict to the 6 year/100k mile warranty. My car only has 60k miles but its a 99. GM did issue a technical service bulletin but being cheap as they are they never put out a recall. This is pathetic of GM considering all 99-02 camaros and firebirds get this problem eventually. What im wondering is have any of you guys past the warranty period been able to get it fixed? And directly to the WMCC I know your close ties to Berger, are they willing to work with the fbody to fix this clear problem GM made? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

    ya this is extremely common. when you get it fixed check into the adhesive they will use to re attach it. cause it can and will happen again if you don't use the right stuff. i don't know what the right stuff is but i've heard of people having problems even after being fixed and it was again the adhesive. good luck!

      yea the service bulletin in the link says step by step what they have to do to put it on properly. Im just wondering if anyone has had thiers fixed and reccommends a dealer who just fixes it or does it for a fair price.

        you got any pictures of this derek? I havent noticed anything like this on my 99 v6

          My car has it along the edges of the sail panel... Its not bad enough to prompt me to deal with it yet.

          Joel, I'll get some pics tomorrow when I have the car outside for a bath.

            yea i was hoping this one wouldnt be bad but everytime i leave it in the sun it seems more pop up. You dont see them unless its at the right angle or on a very hot day when the glue is oozing out a little bit. My 99 v6 was jussst starting to get them when I sold it, on hot days you could clearly see lines of dots on each side bubbling up under the paint.

              I know Berger has done a few of these. What I'm not sure of is if it was done under warranty or not.

                this is interesting because although my V6 has never seen a winter, i know the lady left it parked in her driveway a lot and my car shows absolutely no signs of this whatsoever. looks like ive got something to look forward too though

                  think theyd touch a pontiac? I might have to go down there and see what they say. Im not sure where else to bring it though, not sure what pontiac dealers have paint shops and I know berger has close ties to the fbody crowd.

                    Well,

                    Here was our deal. We did not buy our car from Berger and yes we did have the same issue. I talked to the service department Manager and the Body shop Manager. No Deal... We had ours replaced on our 2000SS with 28K This spring. Figure on forking out the $$$ it was spendy we also had our front end painted for nicks and paintless dent removal. we were over $700.00.

                    Good luck if you find a dealer that will cover. I do know this the sail panels are becoming harder to find......
