Who makes a better line of paint PPG or Dupont? I'm sure there's pros and cons of both so I'm just looking to see what everyone's opinions are.

They're both good...PPG probably gets a bit more pub...Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! AN ENGINE THAT SHAKES MY INTERNAL ORGANS LIKE THEY GOT PARKINSON'S! It annoys me more then anything.

I'm not sure of the car paints but I know ppg makes olympic house paint and it sucks. They do make some cool colors though. Probably not helping you answer your question sorry. Ever thought about House of Kolors?

Both are good paints, but i think ppg has a little bit of an edge on dupont, simply because most every paint shop carries ppg products. They also have everything from baseline products to top of the line bases and clear coats. There stuff is a little more expensive but I think it's well worth it. I'm bias though because every car we paint we use ppg because we've had bad luck with other paints and seem to always get great results with ppg.sigpic

that's the beauty of it, ppg makes everything for a low budget to high budget. I spent about 75 bucks a quart on clear, but my dad just spent 125 a quart on clear.
The cost difference can mean a comprimise in durability. I know we used to use a fast set clear which is good for your garage painter because it allows less time for bugs and stuff to fall into your clear coat. You can literaly spray your car and 4 hours later drive it outside. But the stuff my dad bought for his car flows out very nicely and has excellent durability and uv protection.
If you want some good information go to ppg's website, they have tech sheets on every single product they sell, and often give good descriptions when where how and why to use it. I have the whole binder to tech sheets because i've been doing some major research because next year when i paint my car i want it to last a very long time, and the first time i sprayed my car i used a lower quality clear, it lasted pretty well and always has a good shine, but just can't handle stones like some higher clear coats can.Last edited by cobalt camaro; November 25th, 2008, 02:33 PM.sigpic
