  • Nick's Custom Hood!

Alright, I got a really cool idea. You guys know that my dad is a bodyman, right? Well, he is. He just recently started working on a 1999-2001 Grand Am GT Ram Air, and it was hit in the front end. The hood is fiberglass, and it is cracked in a few places, but nevertheless, it is a ram air hood. I have a gallon of Fiberglass resin in the garage colloecting dust, and I thought it would be pretty cool to fiberglass the ram air intake part of the hood onto mine. . . My dad has done that kind of work before, so it will look like a professional custom job. I'm going to post a pic of the type of hood I'm talking about, i don't have pics of the actual hood yet. I should be getting it this Friday or next monday. I'm getting the hood for free because of the damage, and the dealership is just going to throw it away anyway. What do you guys think?
    Here's a pic. . .

I also have the black and silver "RamAir V6" emblems, they will go on the sides of the cowls. . .

Sounds like a cool idea, especially since your dad has the experience to make it look right. Just make sure you get the intake to truely make it ram-air instead of just throwin the badges on just because of the hood.

Actually hes putting the scoops on his hood that he has, I say just go for it. If it looks bad just an excuse to get a cowl because they are ultimatly bad ass no matter what.

ang...he wouldn't be able to toss it if it screw's up cause he's gonna have to chop the scoop parts off that hood and bondo 'em onto his new hood....my old auto-body teacher from HS had a 383 drag S10 that was the older boxy style S10...he took some scoops from an old cuda and did the same thing...his truck was freakin perfect though....if you can get it right....mine as well try it...just make sure you have the right orange paint to get it re-sprayed

Nick lets see what you can do. Honestly I'm interested in seeing this Dam Camaro mod! Get it Grand Am... Camaro... Dam Camaro!!! That was bad but I had to do it. Oh and while your at it paint those t-tops orange!!! That would be awesome. A lot of people would do it if they had the idea and the will.

The only thing I'd be worried about is how well the scoop will mold into the STEEL hold, I don't know if bondo will last for years with the steel.

To be the "ram air" if your going to have to get a WIDE intake to catch all that air coming in thru the nostrils if it's going to be a TRUE RAM AIR.

It'd be diff. for sure. I would get rid of the bra before you mess with the hood.

It would probably look something like this...

Would the trailing ends of the scoops blend into the hood, or would you carry the humps all the way back to the windshield?

Seems like more trouble than it's worth... but like you said, you got all the materials...

How much would a "new" plain hood cost to use as a base? That way, you stay on the road with your plan "B" hood... which ain't bad looking.

Not a bad photoshop Rob! At first glance it sickens me. But the more I picture it with that hood and no bra it is not so bad...

Since it came off a Grand Am, I may have stretched it a little wider than it really is.
