  • Need Suggestions-Rear Seat Delete

So, I've got to ask you guys for some more suggestions. I want to remove my rear seat and fill the space with something more functional (i.e. storage compartments), while still maintaining a stock appearance. I was thinking of doing something completely custom, and the idea that Ben and I had was to use a kind of "Fire Truck" theme, since I'm trying to become a volunteer FF, and making a shelf for the back out of diamond plate steel with locking/hidden compartments to keep stuff in. Then I saw the price of diamond plate steel. . . YIKES! So, now I'm looking at making something simple out of MDF and carpeting over it with black carpet to match the carpet I'm hoping to get to replace the stock carpet.

Any ideas are welcome. For reference, I will need something easily accessible from the driver's seat to store clipboards, keys, flashlights, and other equipment for work, and I would like a hidden compartment behind the driver's seat that can be locked. I am on the fence as to whether the "guts" for my CarPC will be stored back there, but I'd like some ideas that have provisions for it if i decide to go that route.

    Thanks in advance!

compartments wouldnt be bad if they are subtle. Judging by my brothers rear seat delete setup it will look corny if you raise it enough to store anything there though. With his there isnt much room for compartments. I've always wanted to put in a rear seat delete and have the firebird emblem cut into the wood with plexiglass over the wood and then carpeted to match the car, at night have a neon behind it that glows red Ive seen it done on a few mustangs but never an fbody. As far as black carpet you sure you want to do that? I know my charcoal is hard to keep clean black is gonna be a nightmare getting every little speck out especially if you continue to DD you car with your pup.

Well, the light grey is really nasty, it has some stains that were there when I bought the car, I just thought black would go better with the interior color scheme I have planned, but maybe a charcoal color would be better.

Oh, and Phoenix isn't allowed in my car anymore after Friday's fiasco resulting in a destroyed touchscreen. . .

The idea I had was to make the back seat area flush with the rear deck, and making it slant down at the same angle as the floorpans do where the back seat would be. Basically, it would be a flat surface from the back of the front seats all the way back to the front of my subwoofer box, and it would slant down at the same angle as the seats do. I'll draw up my idea and post up a scanned image of it here. . .

Problem with that idea is that I may need to do something different with the center console to make it work.
