I've seen a 1981 trans am with a 1973 nose transplanted on it. The owner said that all I would have to do is make a few new brackets to mount the fender's and nose. It's something I'd definitely want to try. Does anyone have any tips or tricks?

All you'll need is a 70-73 front clip including the core support and spoilers.
Fenders and hood are the same.
EDIT: Here's a 79 with a 70-73 clip on it...

all depends on how close you want the lines to match up
fenders and hood are not identical 70-81
70-73 fenders do not have the provision for the later model front valance brackets - though they can modified
70-76 hoods have a slight curve at the front to blend with the rounded nose & headlamps
