  • What to use for convertible top?

What sort of protector do you use on a convertible top?

Mine is sort of fading in a few areas.

I hate to say it, but it happens...I've tried a couple protectors in the past (including the "aerospace" developed ones) and I don't think any of 'em work as advertised.

But there are things that are worse than others. Don't use anything specifically with alcohol in it (i.e. Armor All). That just accelerates the process.

On the plus side, I have heard of people re-dyeing the top themselves, but have not actually done it myself.

I use only "Mothers" Convertible Top Cleaner and have been extremely pleased with it.

I use Mother's too. It didn't do anything for my white top though. It was still dingy and faded no matter what I did.

          i use a product from
          R&M Car Care, Inc.

          www.Armor-Dillo.com

its called Armor-Dillo TS-1 - we started using it for faded body cladding on the Chevy Avalanche's at the dealership and the difference was night and day.

so i "borrowed" a packet and tried it on my heavily faded top and WOW!!! what a difference - it looks like a new top. the trick is to follow the directions and allow for proper drying between applications.

What color & material top do you have??....Here's what I do for our white tops.....

I've had pretty good luck with Wesley's Bleche-White. Make such you water down the entire car, spray the top with Wesley's taking great caution not to get any the body, scrub the top with a brush and rinse. Then to keep the top from drying out wash it down with Murphy's oil soap.

Afterwards wash and wax the body because any residual Wesley's that may have gotten on the body will remove wax. So new coat of wax is required.

I've got black. Not sure material, wasn't ever told. Apparently it's a newer one though. Not original.

Probably vinyl, most of the replacement ones are.
