  • Polishing my engine.............questions

Some one has to know on here........but i am going ahead and doing my radiator and while i have some stuff taken off......i was thinking of taking off my TB and poshing it, cleaning up the valve covers and maybe trying to shine up the Alternator. Any suggestions on what i should use? Or does and don'ts. Let me know!

I use Flitz (I think that's what it's called) on my AC condensor and the brake lines. Works pretty good. For hard stuff like your alternator, you'd probably have to use a polishing bit on your dremel or something (I'm guessing, I have no clue) to get it perfectly smooth, and then shine 'er up with some metal polishing compound. Mothers has a good polishing compound, but Flitz worked great.

alternator will need a dremel and takes a LONG time. You have to smooth it all out, and then polish it, with all its little areas. AC canisters can be done using some wet sand paper and then polishing it up good with some metal polish like mothers. I will be doing a bunch of stuff on mine over spring break.

Put a new motor in it, that will make it nice and clean

Hell Yeah! Flitz is the shiznag! Its german made. I used it in my metalsmithing class. That stuff could shine a turd! look for it from jewelers, they could tell you or lowes. Really superb stuff! I am planning on getting some chrome valve covers. They are like $50 for the set. Also you can buy polished or painted alternators from Summit racing for a reasonable price. You may also think about swapping out all your old rubber hoses and wires for bright new shiney ones!

Thanks guys! That sounds good. I want some chrome valve covers, and soon enough i'll switch up the lines and maybe when i got some more cash go for the alt. The alt has NEVER been replaced (still charging fine) and it's at 124,000. Its gotta die SOMETIME. haha

when i shined my motor i used sand paper and just kept getting finer and finer and then polished it with some polish a really suck job it was.But if i would of known about fiz or what ever it was i surely would have used that it sounds like it works great!

you can polish the intake manifold with just basic aluminum polish. I have mine looking like its chrome

the other smaller and more finicky stuff is probably gonna require a dremel
