  • Painting a tank?

I'm not entirely sure if this is a good idea or not... Would it be safe to paint a gas tank?

Mines out of the car and has slight surface rust so I'm thinking ill remove the rust and paint it... Is this safe?

And problems? Also is it safe to paint it black? No idea if it would get to hot being painted black or something and like blow up in my face... Im just checking to see what everyone has to say.

Well i was'nt sure if painting it black would make it "Hotter" or not... I mean appartently if you paint the underside of your intake a certian color and other parts of your engine certain colors... your motor preforms better... So who knows.

the sumped tank i just put in my car came painted. it looks nice. i even touched it up in some places where it was messed up from welding a fitting on.

paint away it'll be fine and look better under there

painting parts of the engine white to keep them cooler, such as the intake manifold will do nothing!!! there is no light in there unless you are running it without a hood. colors reflect and absorb light...not heat. so if there's no light painting will not make a difference.

I have painted a lot of my gas tanks. Use Eastwood's Tank Tone it'll give it an OEM look without having to buy a new tank, good luck!!

Ah i wasn't sure.. I head read about it a few times in a magazine as well as online and also it was on trucks or horse power... something like that so i just assumed it had some effect even if minimal.
