Painted by berger panel and I'm tinting the tails when my VHT Nite Shades arrives. Ran into problems though

Since it was nice today I decided to take the car to a self wash and after spraying it the paint came off a little. The "Camaro" part is no big deal, getting blue inserts, but the top chipped off too. I gotta put some clear coat over it I guess. I really want it to stay flat black and not glossy, so any suggestions/tips to help?

    Did you sand it first?

Yeah, twice. Sanded it before painted, put down a couple coats then sanded it again to get rid of the imperfections and put on another coat.

Hmm, how long did it have to dry before you washed it? Was it warm where you let it dry? Or cold like outside?

Been dry for like two days and dried inside in my room. Maybe just shitty paint? I used Dupli-Color acrylic lacquer. Maybe I'll just touch it up and clearcoat it and hope it doesn;t get too glossy.

Could just be crappy paint, but after that many coats i almost doubt it coming off that easy.

Sand it all down, get some adhesion promoter, and re-spray it with a few more coats. Thats the only way I see it lasting down the road.

What grit sand paper did you use? You need to use at least 600 grit for good adhesion. It also needs to be warm when you paint. If you painted it in the weather we've had lately it won't cure properly and will peel like you have now. After sanding, wash it with some dish soap to get off all the wax/grease. Then before paint, wipe it down with some wax and grease remover or if you don't have any of that, use some rubbing alcohol.

i still see plenty of blue under that paint, it should be scuffed better than that. Wade has the right idea.

looks like a temperature issue. Also be sure to spray the paint in several thin coats, not just one or two.

Good prep is the key! Poor prep=crap results. For those recessed letters, get yourself a red Scotchbrite pad to scuff that area up. It'll be easier than trying to do it with sandpaper. Oh, and sand it wet, not dry. Soak the paper in water with a few drops of dish soap. Wet the part and keep the paper wet while doing it. It helps it from clogging up the paper and keeps the edges of the paper from making deeper scratches than the grit you're using.
