  • Red LED Defrost Button

Well, I gutted some of my interior pieces today (gauge cluster bezel, knee bolster, glove box, carPC, A-pillars, dash pad..) to start with the painting of the interior [and replacing the knee bolster with the piece I already painted...] but anyway I want to do this to make it look good, so I entirely took apart pieces like the air vents (took each fin apart, etc, so when i paint it it will come out looking real good) and I started to take apart the defrost case because I wanted to paint the bezel around the button red to match the knee bolster instead of having it be black... anyway, when I popped it open the circuit board came out and I was staring at a blue bulb, of course my noggin started churning so within 5 minutes I had the soldering iron out warming up while I had the multimeter measuring exactly how much was going to the bulb, turns out it was an even 12v bulb so I grabbed an LED and the right resistor and soldered it all up and then installed it in the circuit board. Anyway, here's two pics for anyone that's interested in doing it and knows how to solder, it's actually a REALLY easy swap..

That's what I intend to find out soon enough. I already bought 194-base wedge LEDs so I can replace the bulbs in my gauges with pure red. I'll probably try them out tomorrow at some point.

Cool idea. I think I would do blue. I want blue neons in the interior to contrast the beautiful red pontiac console. Nice job. I want software for my laptop to have a GUI for my cars PC like in the Fast and the Furious! Has anyone seen one. I also need the hardware to hook it up.

Talking about pulling apart consoles. Brian, maybe you could talk Nick though a center console replacement. The lid to his center console is broken. Or maybe we can find a cool way to make a hinge for it??

Anyway. I am psyched to see what everyone has done to their rides. 109 days and counting...

Nick's best bet would be to get a 97+ console like I did and swap them out, they're directly swappable, but the 97+ has one extra peg for stability that you either cut the peg off or you drill a hole in the metal bracket to make it more stable horizontally. The 97+ hinges are metal, so you won't have to worry about those breaking, plus there's 4 cup holders, and two 12v accessory plugs.
