What should i expect to pay to have my 98 Z painted. Gonna have the whole thing re-painted but have never had a car painted before and dont want to get nailed by some body shop. I dont know if color effects price but im sticking with black. If any of you guys can even ballpark me that would be cool.

Paint cost?

Well as long as you don't go Macco a good paint job is expensive. I've heard around 4-5K but hopefully it won't be too bad since your staying black and they won't have to repaint the engine compartment and door jambs. Let me know what you get quoted for, I might have to respray sometime down the road.Doing less with more

To give you an idea, I went to a pretty good quality paint shop, and this is what I had painted:
Front Bumper
Hood
Ground Effects (4 pieces, front, sides, and rear)
Spoiler
They also blended my front fenders and my rear bumper.
The damage: $2200. So, figure that you'd have about twice as much to get done... easilly 4-5k.- Brian Meissen

Wow!
I took the '89 TA for an estimate to a shop near me that does excellent work. This was for a complete color change (body one color with gfx and spoiler a different color) with the fenders, doors and hood removed by them and some body work which included a quarter panel replacement. I was supplying the quarter panel and the total was only $4200!!!!
The shop owner told me the car wasn't worth it, but I'm making him do it anyways

This is why I'll probably be painting my '80 Z myself. You know, in 10-20 years when I get back to it and the kids are gone or almost gone, lol.

I need paint work too. I will be putting on my Wings West Kit this year and was thinking it is probably better to paint the whole car not just the kit and my spoiler that the previous owners destroyed the paint on.
So I want to stick with Red. How much would it cost to have the kit and my spoiler painted? Does it make more sense to paint the whole car? Thanks! Sorry about hijacking the thread D$$.

I wish I had a compressor and paint gun. I've gotten some really good results out of regular spraypaint, so I would think if I had the right tools to do the job, I could do some good paint jobs.- Brian Meissen

Umm.... a paint booth is more important. garage paint jobs usually entail a ton of dirt in your paint job. a friend of mine that does some pretty good garage jobs would take the garden hose in his garage and just soak the ENITIRE garage...ceiling walls...floor everything. then when water stopped dripping off the ceiling he'd pull the car in and start preping it and then go at it. but yeah having a clean paint enviroment is most crucial. you can always run some curtains down a panel and wet sand 'em out later. but when you get little pieces of dirt. it makes for a little but harder of a time to fix1998 Camaro SS Bullseye Turbo

Well since my friend's dad is a painter for GM and his uncle owns his own paint and body shop, so I could probably get my shit painted for cheap as hell. Just need to do all the sanding and buy the paint.Doing less with more

just do it the smart way get full coverage on your car... then let some local kids at it with keys...lol make sure full coverage covers vandalism and a good amount on paint... then boom new paint job.. and normally all the shops makes you pay the differance in paint for a nicer color... some people call this insurance fraud... i call it sticking it to the man.. lol
ive got a friend who works in a body shop and he did this to his now sponsored turbo f150 show truck... looks nice in lambo orange ha haOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice.
