  • Refaced Speedo from autoinstruments

Well I sent out my speedo back the first week of July, was a bday present to myself. Anyway after much frustration waiting, I FINALLY got it today. It looks great, I am so excited, cant wait to install it. Surely it will give me at least another 250 hp....lol...bwhahaahahaha...seriously though nothing worse than going over the 85 speedo and not knowing how fast yur going, so this will fix that problem. It goes to 160mph so that should be plenty sufficient. here is a pic, sorry, my cam wouldnt take a good pic, maybe I'll pull the cover to get a better pic but this will do for now.

I have always liked my 85 MPH one though, when cops pull me over.

Cop: Do you know how fast you were driveing?

Me: Why yes, 85, it said so right here.

My car; 160mph...nah, not really even interested. I'll make sure my cars built well bumper to bumper before I start worrying about high triple digits.

I'm beginning to think the speedo is off. I got it installed and went for a ride. Seems to be a bit slow at low speed, but once it got to around 80mph, it seems to read fast. But I'm used to the 85 speedo so maybe its just me. I need to do some math, I remember a calculator somewhere on a site that you can put in your gear ratio, trans ratio, tire size, and rpm and it will tell you speed. I need to find that. I got on the highway and gunned it, about 2 miles down the road the tach was reading almost 4500rpm, and speedo was about 130mph. Sounds good but considering this is an LG4 305, I have a hard time believing the mph, so I need to check it.

well to say the least, I am quite surprised. I crunched the numbers and based on 4500rpm, .73 overdrive, 3.73 gears, and 25.7 tire, that would put me right about 126.5mph. So to my amazement the speedo was right, and my car is much faster than I had thought. And my tach was checked at autoinstruments and i was told that it was operating properly. I just dont know what to think about this. Had I actually thought I was going 130mph, I probably wouldnt have done it...lol...I thought the speedo was lying to me. Im gonna do a few more tests in 4th gear so I can double check this. All I know is that if this car will do 130mph with a crappy 235,000 mile LG4 305 that burns oil almost as fast as gas, then this baby is gonna scream once I get my LT1 dropped in. I should have the cash to start the swap this coming weekend.

P.S. If my car is voted "best beater" again at the next M&G, I'm gonna raise hell. Especially since I never got my damn shirt.....lol
