well first off you have to now how to adjust your gun correctly. second when you lay on the base coat, you have to do many light coats, than you want to wait for dry time for about 15 to 20 min. Than you lay the clear coat down wet but not to wet for it to run, but not to dry eather, its a technique, It takes a long time to get, but practic is most important....

well I have painted alot and never had this trouble its got to be in the mixture that isnt rite do you add more reducer or less. My friend confussed me and said less will give it more time to dry and flow together more will dry quicker is what he said I thought it was opposite.

Pace is right, and if you look at specs on your gun, sometimes it can just be your fan pattern on the gun, or the pressure that your spraying at, or maybe you do need to add a little more reducer, but overall, light even coats, and make sure you overlap to keep an even color, don't want to tiger stripe it. Hope this helps, just be patient, take your time, and make sure everything gets covered evenly. Don't look at color, look at after you spray a streak does it look wet, then when you go for the next pass make sure that it still looks evenly wet, no dry streaks. Good lucksigpic

I agree it sounds like gun adjustment, but the paint should have a humidity level on the label, always follow the label or you'll have issues

I used to paint at body shop we mixed our own paint and was tought by the painter there how to do it. I lost contact with them guys so I cant ask them. He knew what he was doing when he added the reducer he could tell by the way it came off the mixing stick if it was good. I cant do it like that lol that takes years. Im sparying betweew 20-25lbs pressure and I dont think the fan width will effect it since Im doing a spoiler its about 8inchs wide. I have the fluid turned up its coming out wet but not flowing for some reason.

I was taught by someone who started painting in the 50's, and the paint stick thing is showing off it tells you nothing about flow. Always read the label, if your using an hvlp gun your pressure is high (Mine I set at 15 at the wall and about 8 at the gun)Originally posted by ROUDA View PostI used to paint at body shop we mixed our own paint and was tought by the painter there how to do it. It's gotta be the gun adjustment if you're following manufacturer's specs on the mixing ratio. Also, when I painted Ben's car, it had the worst orange peel I'd ever seen on a car after I sprayed the clear, but most of the peel was gone after the paint hardened more.Nick H.
