    Painting mirrors

    Ok I was suppose to do this last year and never did

    BUT

    I must get it done this summer

    I need to pull off my mirrors and paint them because the black thats on there..is faded,cracked,chipped..and its just horrible...

    SO

    how exaclty should I do it..

    What kind of sand paper ( I need to sand it right?)

    And I dont know my paintcode for my car...Im not going to paint them black I want them to match the green exterior..the lil stickers on the door and glovebox are very very faded and you cant even read one word...

    Oh yea..forgot to mention..

    I also want to paint the front bumper..you know the part thats black on the d/p side...I would like for those to be green also

      painting the mirrors is easy, unbolt them, mask the glass, scuff with grey scotchbrite after cleaning with dishsoap

        Ehh, you may not get an exact match if you go straight with the GM paint code.

        You car has likely faded over time. If you can live with a not-quite-exact match, then run with it.

        Should be a simple job like Steve said. I'd put a good primer on first to help smooth out some of the imperfections, sand lightly, then paint, then clear.

        That's the quick job...

        The longer job is:

        1. sand
        2. primer
        3. sand
        4. paint
        5. sand (higher grit)
        6. paint
        7. clear
        8. clear

        Repeat steps 4 through 6 until you're happy.

        Or take it to a shop and let them color match it.

          How much exactly should it run if I was to go to the shop and do it?


          Yea I dont know if I could last with the diff color greens lol..I think it would be to noticable?

              it's noticeable, depends on the shop but few do any work for less than a couple hundred bucks, but if doing the bumper too it may be worth it, take it to a couple places tell them you'll pull the parts and clean them up, see what they want to shoot them
