May WMCC Club Meeting May 6th 2007:
In what is becoming a WMCC tradition, we will once again be holding our May Club meeting at the 44th Annual Mendon Dust Off car show, held at the Mendon High School parking lot, in Mendon, MI. This show usually fills up rather quickly, so it’s important that we arrive early to get good parking places. We plan to meet at the Holiday Inn Express (Holiday Inn Express, 269-278-7766, 1-800-HOLIDAY) in Three Rivers and leave there by 7:00am on Sunday morning! Many members will be staying at this Holiday Inn Express on Saturday evening so we can get around and leave for the show in Mendon very early on Sunday morning. The Holiday Inn Express is located on the northeast corner of US-131 and Broadway St. in Three Rivers. It is right across the street (US131) from the Meijers gas station. Leaving by 7:00am should put us in Mendon, and in our parking spots at the High School before 8:00am. There will be a Pancake Breakfast available to get us all jump started (our bodies, not our Camaros!). We’ll enjoy the show for a while, then, we’ll gather together around our cars (or inside the gym, depending on the weather) at around Noon to have our Club business meeting. Be sure to bring your folding chairs! So, pray for nice warm and sunny weather! It should be a great time! Remember, if you’re not staying in the area on Saturday, you’ll want to meet up with us at 7am in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express. For those not meeting at the Holiday Inn Express, the show is located in Mendon, MI in the High School parking lot. Take M-60 east out of Three Rivers to Mendon (about 13 miles), stay on M-60 to Nottowa St. and go left on Nottowa (Wise Motors on corner). Go about 5 blocks and look for the football field on your right. Turn Right on the road that runs next to field. Follow the signs. You have arrived at the Show. You should plan on being at the High School a little before Noon so you can attend the meeting.

Gilmore Car Museum Creates Michigan Dream Garage
Kalamazoo, Mich., March 29, 2007
–The Gilmore Car Museum, located in Hickory Corners, Mich., has assembled 22 of the world’s rarest and most sought after muscle cars of the 1960s and ‘70s in its "Michigan Dream Garage-The Ultimate Muscle Cars." This special exhibit will run throughout the museum’s 2007 season, which begins May 1 and ends Oct. 31. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 6 p.m. on the weekends.
In order to create this year’s "Dream Garage," Gilmore Car Museum sought out benchmark cars from a number of private collectors. This all new exhibit includes a 1964 Pontiac GTO, six authentic Yenko Cherolets, one of which was formerly owned by baseball superstar, Reggie Jackson; a 1963 Impala (Grey Ghost), which was recently restored by Boyd Codington; and many more.
Considered to be an American phenomenon, muscle cars of the 1960s and ‘70s were high-performance vehicles produced by auto manufacturers and sold directly through local dealers. They were marketed primarily to young males and they soon were in great demand. The demand drove auto manufacturers to compete to be the producers of the most powerful and extreme street machines.
One dealer, Yenko Chevrolet of Canonsburg, PA, soon became one of the most well-known and largest suppliers of muscle cars during the ‘60s and ‘70s. The reputation was started by specially ordering 100 factory-built high performance Covairs in 1966. The dealer later moved on to offering customized Camaros, Chevelles, and Novas.
By the early ‘70s, the oil crisis, stricter emission standards, high insurance costs and safety concerns began to seriously impact muscle car sales and the larger engines were dropped. Now, after more than 30 years, these cars have become highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. The Gilmore Car Museum’s 41st season will offer
this extraordinary exhibit, "Michigan Dream Garage-The Ultimate Muscle Cars," throughout its 2007 season.
