  • Real Life Drama at Sea

So I get a call from my sister down in florida last week. Her husbands family owns a racing yacht that sails out of Cali. They had just competed in the Pacific Cup from San Fransisco to Hawaii and finished 4th. On their way bringing the boat home, 500 miles north of Hawaii, disaster struck. Seems they somehow got in with a group of whales and one of them RAMMED the boat. The yacht took on water and SANK! They got off a distress call and all 4 made it into the life raft. The Coast Guard sent out a C130 which dropped them a radio and supplies. They were told they were to far out for a chopper and it would take 2 days to get a cutter to them. The Coast Guard radioed a Korean freighter which was about 100 miles away. It was able to alter course and pick them up. It in turn transfered them to a fishing troller which took them back to Hawaii. Althought still not home everyone is alive and well
My sisters father-in-law shot these pics as his boat was going down8-O 8-O 8-O

Looks like photo shootin' runs in the family. He could give you a run for your money, Ray. Man does that suck. I couldn't imagine watching my boat drown in the middle of the ocean.

LOL that was pretty much my first thought too "WOW, great pics, wonder what kind of camera he's shooting!"

It was a high dollar boat but is gone and can not be salvaged. I assume insurance will cover it. We are just glad everyone is alright.
