  • Autocross events last weekend (May 8 & 9)

A few WMCC members participated in a couple autocross events on May 8th & 9th at the West Michigan Auto Auction facility. The events were hosted and organized by the Furrin Group sports car club (they all drive "Furrin Cars", get it?). Anyway, their Club is almost 60 years old and have always been very active over here on the west side of the State. Autocrosses and road rallies are a couple of their main activities.

The weather on Saturday was not what anyone would call enjoyable with temps in the mid-40's, spotty rain and high winds. But there were still 68 cars entered in the event. I don't have any pics from Saturday since it was too misserable to stand out there and take pics! But we did manage to get a few pics taken on Sunday.

This guy just purchased this CTS-V the day before and brought it out to the autocross. Turns out it runs in F Stock class, just like our Camaros. He proceeded to take 1st place in our class! (He normally runs a Lotus Elise and is a very good driver.)

This WRX was quite modified and was one of the strong runners all weekend.

Now there's a tire that's being worked pretty hard!

John, Nick and Dave working their corner. As part of the deal, everyone has to work one session to help the event run smoothly.

That guy knocked over a cone! I'll go set it back up, you call it in.

This black Audi was one of my favorite cars at the event. It looked great and was very fast, too.

After running at Gingerman in late April and now this event, I have discovered that I'm not very competitive anymore. I guess I'm just not as agressive as I used to be back in my 20's. I think the car is capable, so it's got to be me! Oh well, I'm having fun, anyway, so that's what's important at this stage in life. Hey, at least I've got plenty of room for improvement! LOL

I plan on Autocrossing my car next weekend at Dixie - should be a lot of fun - looks like from those pictures it was!

Never done it before, lets see how much of a fool I can make of myself. It'll be nice to compare before and after my struts/shocks/springs, though.

The Furrin Groups next autocross event will be held at US131 Motorsports park (Martin Dragway, for all us old timers) on June 27th. They will set up the course in the staging area behind the tower as well as some of the long paved roads in the pit area. It should be a little more "F Body friendly" than most courses set up only in parking lots.

They will also be at GVSU on July 3 & 4.
