  • 9th Annual WMCC Fall Color Tour Weekend

It was raining on Friday morning (10-09-09) at 9am when we met near Ionia for our 9th Annual WMCC Fall Color Tour Weekend, but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm one bit, because we were all anticipating a great weekend of driving, looking at awesome scenery and (best of all) hanging out with our WMCC family. The cars were going to get dirty, but hey, they would wash off later if it dried up.

As we headed north on M-66 we had 9 Camaros in a row, many of which are MiFbody Members.

    John & Christi F. WMCC John F,
Dennis & Ronnie M. WMCC Dennis & WMCC Ronnie
    Carl & Teresa L. WMCC85Berli & WMCC2000SS
    Dennis & Bonnie E.
    Dave & Angie K. WMCCDAVE & WMCCRXPOWER
Nick & Christi K. WMCC Nick
    Dave & Gay V. WMCC Dave V
Jeff & Debbi P. (from Chicago)
Doug & Anita W. WMCC Doug

We were soon joined up by

    John & Cheryl S.
    John Jr.
Gib & Tammy l. WMCC Tammy & Gib Loudon

which put our caravan at 12 Camaros long. We soon broke off onto some nice curvy back roads while we made our way across the State, heading towards our weekend home base motel in Tawas City.

Well, it managed to rain all day Friday and that gave us something to talk about, and it was a little on the cold side as well. But we run with our two-way radios, so we can all talk as we drive which is a nice added aspect to the weekend.

Once in Tawas City we checked in to the motel and headed to a great pizza joint across the road. After dinner we all ended up in the motel's bar where the was a DeeJay working a karaoke night. Things got a little crazy as the night wore on and everyone had a good time and many laughs. Part way through the evening, Al & Jan B. (WMCC AL) surprised us all by walking into the bar. It was a nice surprise. We were all very impressed with how good John Jr and Tammy did singing.

Saturday morning dawned clear, dry and about 34 degrees! Dennis & Ronnie had to head towards Detroit to watch their grandson play football, but it was nice to have them with us all day on Friday. There was frost on the cars, but most still managed to make it down the road to the coin-opp car wash and get the cars cleaned up a little. By around 9:15am we were on our way to Oscoda and Kalitta Air's facility for another tour. Even though we visited here last year, it's still very impressive to be inside a (very big) room with a 747! Wow, they sure are big. They gave us a tour of their engine rebuild/maintainence shop this year. I think some of the wives were a little bored with this, but the guys really liked seeing the inner workings of a 747 jet engine. Unfortunately, the engines are too big to fit in a Camaro! LOL

We toured the areas back roads for the afternoon and eventually ended up in Alpena where we stopped for a late lunch and then toured the Thunder Bay Ship Wreck Museum. That was very interesting!

We made the drive back down to Tawas City to the motel where Steve & Kathy O. (WMCC ZEEEE YA) showed up. More partying ensued on Saturday evening for many, but some people were pretty tired (like me! LOL), so I retired to our room, watched the end of the U of M game, and went to bed.

Sunday morning was clear again, but even colder!!!!!!!! Some of the group had things to do and headed home while the rest headed out for one more day of sight seeing before we too made the turn south-west to bring a great weekend to a close. We stopped by the Tawas Point Lighthouse, and the Lumbermans Monument before heading for home. All in all it was a great weekend filled with fun, adventure and great friends. When it was all said and done, we had 14 different Camaros and 27 WMCC members enjoy the weekend.

Next year, we're talking about going to the upper peninsula .......

    Here's a few pics ...........

James, I wish you and Carrie had joined us for the weekend. We had a great time.

Brian, you and Angie should have driven up and dropped in on us, too. We're probably not going to be that close to your side of the State again soon. We're talking about maybe going to Mackinaw City, Sault Ste. Marie & Tahquamenon Falls for next year.

                        LOL Scott,

We didn't LET the Mustang park with us, he just did it (he works at Kalitta Air). He pulled in our line while we were inside the hanger and when we came, there he was, parked right in the middle of our line!

Boy, did he catch it! Especially from the women in the Club (they're vicious! ). After a few minutes of (good natured) trash talk, he pulled out of line and did a (pretty weak) burn-out.

At that point, John Smith had seen about all he wanted to see, so the black Berger SS pulled out on the runway and did a "proper" burnout, circles and all. Mustang Boy was definitely out done, and last seen slinking away with his tail tucked between his legs !!!!
