  • 08 HRPT Costs??

    Hey guys,
I am really seriously starting to plan the Long Haul HRPT for 08. Would any of you Long Haulers be able to give me a complete cost for last years HRPT? I have an idea but I want to see if I am close. I know the fuel mileage of each car is going to greatly change each cost but at least if you can let me know I will have some comparitive information.

How long does it last and what are the exact 2008 dates? I'd love to go but summer classes will probably interfere.

        I've done 4 PT's, 3 long hauls and one half-haul.
A LOT depends on YOU and how nice a hotel you spring for and if you eat fast food or go to a restaurant every night. We stay at Holiday Inn's, so figure $100 a night.
The 3 Long Hauls were in our '01 SS so figure 25+ mpg on gas.

In '03 (cheaper gas), Nashville to Dallas, my then 14 year old son and I went. Did everythng we wanted to do and had an absolute BLAST. We cut 2 nights hotel by staying with friends in Nashville. We ate fast food, kept our expenses down. But in New Orleans we went all out. Stayed at the Hotel Monteleon in the French Quarter. Spent the evening on Burbon Street. Did a river cruise, ate and drank anything we wanted. That was one splurge night Split most hotels with another club member.
He and I together spent $1100 for the week.

'04 Dallas to Green Bay. The wife and I went. Still stayed at Holiday Inn. But we ate in restaurants every night and sometimes for lunch. Didn't "rough it" any where near as much with her along. We didn't split any hotels.
        Spent $1700

'05 Drove the '73 and only went half way . Wisconsin to Nashville and I think we spent less that $1000.

        '06 didn't go

'07 Cleveland to Little Rock. Wife and I and son for Cleveland and Kalamazoo. Then dropped the wife at home and son and I went the rest of the way for his Senior Trip. Holiday Inns again. Lots of fast food again. We love eating at fast food places we don't have here, like SONIC. We slept at home on the Kzoo night and after that split the hotels with Gary.
        Spent $1300.

The best thing you can do is split hotel costs.

We are not going in '08 as we are doing the WMCC Carribean Cruise in Feb.
I have promised my 13 year old that he and I will go in '09 when he is 14.

It really is a car guy (or gal) trip of a lifetime to long haul. You will NEVER be so tired and happy to sleep in your own bed as when you are done. But the next morning you will wish you were heading out again
        Hope this helps

We've done 3 Long Houls, and one partial half-haul too. Half-haul in 2001, Pontiac to Effingham, IL. And Long hauls in 03, 04, and 06. Nashville to Dallas, Dallas to Green Bay and Orlando to Englishtown in New Jersey. We did not share a room and didn't try to watch our food budget (only occational fast food places, more nice steak places, etc.).

Ray keeps very good records and watches his budget well. We were less careful and didn't worry too much about how much we spent (until the bills came in! LOL) I think we spent between $2,500 and $3,000 on the Long Hauls

So, Power Tour can be what you want it to be, expense wise. But, either way, it's a great time !!!!!!!!!

The big variables are food choices and souvenirs (Show T-shirts, Jackets, sight seeing trips, etc). Sharing a room is a big budget helper. If your car gets good mileage, that helps, too.
RIP Doug,You will always be remembered

I tell you what if this year anyone is stopping in Nashville and needs a place to stay i might be able to set something up for people to stay at my apartment.... Not sure of the dates but after June 18th ill be at NADC My room mate will be attending as well so I'm sure having fellow car buffs wouldn't be a problem. After being down there ill be able to scout out a bit for people if they have questions to.

I have no idea were people will be traveling but if its threw Nashville we might be able to work something out for a few people to cut some costs.

                      Thanks for the info!

Ray, If I take the average of all four of your trips, I will be where I want to be for a budget. I hope to have my 73 done and tuned to where I am running efficient to be in the mid 20 mpg!

Doug, if I am going to be where you have been for a cost, I may have to just do a "half haul".

My plan is to drive Friday (6/6/08) straight to my family in-laws (have driven this in 11hrs) on the western side of TN, then the next morning head to Little Rock (what looks to be a four hour drive) for the kick-off. About what time will the cruise leave from Little Rock?

Do all of you have your hotel reservations figured out yet?

I did the long haul in '07, and was planning to go in '08 but have since decided to wait a year and go agian in '09. I think between my Father-in-law & myself we spent about $1100 for the entire tour. We shared rooms with Ray & Kyle. It was a AWESOME time and I'm looking forward to doing it again in 2009.

You can figure to spend $2000.00 if you are driving something that gets around 20-22 MPG. and share a room with someone.

You will need about $1000.00 for just t-shirts, LOL

But that'll get you a free $50 jacket!!! LOL

Derek, The kickoff is all day on Saturday. You will want to be in Little Rock no later that about 10 am. Opening day is the best in my opinion. The drive will leave Little Rock about 8am on Sunday morning.

Last time we drove the Ozarks on PT ...... there was a stretch of road that the directions said "No gas for 50 miles". We missed that last gas station LOL.
This was the COOLEST handling road ever!!! We had 12 4th gen camaros and ONE '73 Nova. We were having a blast!!! Speeds usually under 60mph, just having a great time doing the banked curves and blind hills.
We get to the end and pull over at a little park and we are all giving each other high fives due to all the fun we just had ...... the nova guy is white as a ghost and says .... " I had her up on 3 wheels more than once keeping up with you guys"

Well, I think I will have to drive straight down to TN for the night on Friday then and head out as soon as I can on Saturday morning, that way I should be able to see most if not all of the kick-off!!

BTW, I ordered new seats (Scat Procars Rally 1000) for my 73 and I should have them installed this weekend! It's looking good for the HRPT 08!!

I have never seen the Osarks, sounds like a blast!! Good story!
