What was everyone's opinion about the Firebird of the Month competition? Is there anything anyone would change about it? Does it feel fair?

I find it confusing when its nomination & voting threads are running the same time as MIFBODY ROTM.

I try my best to make it so that is no confusion. The title of the threads starts with MIFC just like how this one is titled to prevent confusion between ROTM and MIFC: FOTM.
Also we don't have a nomination thread. We have a photo submission thread instead. Our voting also takes place before ROTM does because ROTM nominations ends on the 1st or 2nd of the month. Our photo submission thread opens up 7 days before the first of the month and closes when voting opens 3 days before the first of the month. Our voting ends at 11:59pm on the day before the first of the month.
I am not sure how to make any other differences so there isn't any confusion because ours is done in a different way. photo submissions vs nominations, MIFC: FOTM vs ROTM, our voting threads can contain more or less than 3 cars, 92conv does ROTM and the_dragon does MIFC:FOTM, and ours is done on a shorter time frame.

I don't think it's so much about the timing of your thread/submissions, as it is about your venue for the submissions.
You're asking people here to submit photos/vote for something that ends up on a Facebook page. To add to that, there's people voting here who are neither Firebird owners nor members of MIFC. That's the most confusing part......it doesn't seem equitable to your members who are submitting photos for the Facebook competition. I might suggest keeping Facebook to Facebook, and MiFbody to MiFbody.
Just my

The problem with keeping Facebook to Facebook and Mifbody to Mifbody is that we have members that don't have a facebook account or others don't have a mifbody account. I don't want members feel like we are exclusively on Mifbody or Facebook. I try my best to connect the two to stimulate activity. I would hate to see the Michigan Firebird Club to dissolve into a voting committee again. I would love to see the MIFC grow instead having small spurts of activity and then dissolve. MIFC is still in the extremely early stages of becoming a club even though it has been around for so long. I would like to get it to the point that it won't dissolve again and be more of a official Firebird Club. It would be nice to have a Firebird community in Michigan like there is Detroit 5th gen.Originally posted by 92conv View PostI don't think it's so much about the timing of your thread/submissions, as it is about your venue for the submissions.

It is supposed to be a competition a lot like the Ride of the Month. We announce a winner and it becomes our cover photo on facebook. The cover photo on facebook is more so a bonus just like it is for the ROTM winner to have their photo used as the Mifbody Facebook page cover photo.
I do agree that it is confusing having non-members voting. I don't have a list of MIFC members usernames on Mifbody to exclude non-member votes. I can ask Akodo/Mike if I can have the list. The only other way to prevent confusion is to make a FOTM forum that is only visible by MIFC members (kind of like how the Smack Talkers Forum was only visible by people in the Smack Talkers group) and keeping the MIFC forums open for the public to see. That way we could add MIFC members to that group and have our submissions and voting done in a forum only visible to MIFC members. The winner can be announced in the public MIFC forums.
I think for next month I will have a few more requirements such as more details about the members Firebird, only one photo submitted per member, photos cannot be obviously edited (color enhancing is allowed), and only MIFC members (only people on our facebook page or on Akodo's list) can submit and vote.
The main thing I want to achieve in this competition is to stimulate MIFC activity and make a fun competition for MIFC members. Secondly I don't want it feel like it is a competition that only people with the best looking ride or the most modified car can win. Not everyone has money or the time to make/buy a rolling piece of art, but majority of people has the ability to take a very good picture of their car. That is why I call the Firebird of the Month a photo competition. I want everyone feel like they have a chance at winning. If someone does not have the ability to take a picture I would be willing to take pictures of their ride if they PM me and travel to my area or if I am in their area I could do so. I don't have an expensive camera, but it takes pretty decent pictures. I think it would be cool if we have a 2014 cruise and photo shoot day.Last edited by the_dragon; August 4th, 2014, 10:25 PM.

Honestly, as long as the thread has the preface "MIFC" I don't think it's as confusing, but I agree with Shawn your hard part is going to be filtering votes to only MIFC members.- Brian Meissen

As another idea - since the "Smack Talk" forum isn't being used now that we banned the troll, I could remove the "Smack Talk" tab at the top of the page and change it to "Michigan Firebird Club" so that only MIFC threads show up in that tab?- Brian Meissen
