  • MIFC Election Nominations

I am honestly very happy to announce this. I've been attempting, and failing, at running the MIFC single-handedly since this Spring. I now wish to enlist the assistance of some of our more active club members. That said, here's how this is going to work:

1: If you wish to nominate an MIFC member for a position, simply post your nomination in this thread.
2: The nominee will then either accept or decline the nomination.
3: After a nomination is made and accepted, the nominee's name and user name will be added to the nomination list below.
4: On November 15th, I will create a new thread with a poll containing all of the accepted nominations, and MIFC members will be able to vote for one person for each position. Voting will close on December 15th, and our newly elected MIFC Board Members will have our first meeting some time in January, to be determined by the board.

That's it. The positions I would like to fill are as follows:

    Vice President
    Treasurer
Webmaster/Site Designer (We don't have a site yet, but we would like one. If you would like to design a site for us, please contact me directly through PM here or at mifirebirdclub@gmail.com)
    Membership/Recruiting Chairperson

You may not nominate yourself. I would like to see positions filled by individuals who have sacrificed their time in the past to help out the MIFC, or at least participated in a couple of events. That said, exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis, so if you have any questions, contact me.

I will add a list and update periodically as nominations are made.
    Nick H.

I'm happy to help any way that I can, although the available volunteer hours seem to be dwindling lately -- which means that the things that I'm involved in (squad leader and treasurer for our auxiliary police unit; newsletter editor, database manager, and treasurer for other car groups; endless poster and now moderator for MiFBody; and now my old/new life as a hockey goalie) are gradually soaking up more time -- and I know for a fact that the PD is actually doing that. Either that, or else I'm getting old and slowing down!

Since I haven't been chewed up and spit out on the ice yet, I'll admit to getting older, but not to slowing down!

This is a long way of saying, I'll take the nomination for treasurer if there are no other candidates, but I would like to see other guys, especially actual Firebird owners, take the first run at this. I have plenty of experience with maintaining a checkbook and preparing reports, and even in preparing budgets, planning, and analysis -- so even if that level of detail is not yet necessary with the MiFC quite yet, I'll be happy to help and advise whoever is in office.

Ben accepted the nomination from Shawn via text. I sent him a message to let him know since he doesn't have internet access at home.

Since a couple of others have tossed in their nominations, I'd like to mention mine:

Vice President: Mike S. (Akodo) - He's helped out tremendously in the planning and execution of events in the past, and has always pulled through for us. Heck, nearly half of the judging staff at CSF this year wouldn't have been there if it weren't for Mike. He has shown dedication to and sacrificed for the MIFC on numerous occasions, and I would like to see him in a position where it's expected, rather than me always feeling guilty about calling on him for help all the time.

Treasurer: Mike M. (MikeM) - Basically, he's going to act as the voice of reason behind all decisions that involve spending money, as well as organizing and managing any fundraisers, charity events, and future accounts that the club may open. I nominate Mike for this position because he is honest, he has been a driving force behind all of the events that we have done (including CSF Judging, the club meeting at Baker's, and he helped out with the Heritage Tour, even though he wasn't able to make it), and because I think this would be a great place for him to help make our club into something great. If and when we have to charge admission to a show we organize, or if we decide to charge annual club dues, all money that changes hands will go through Mike and into an account in the MIFC's name. Organization funds is a touchy subject with me, I would like to give that responsibility to someone I can trust.

Web Designer: I don't know if we have any web design folks in the club yet or not, but if anyone is interested, or knows of someone who is capable of building a site for us, I'd like to know. If someone who is interested in learning how to build a site would like the position, contact me, and we can work together to make it happen. I'm vaguely familiar with HTML and javascript, but honestly, a basic site is all we need, and there are places you can build one online that have basic drag-and-drop functionality. We can tweak it from there.

Membership/Recruiting: Kevin L. (KTL711) -I've seen the way he can just walk up to someone and talk to them without any hesitation. . . Give the man some business cards and flyers, and he'd double our numbers in a month. Even though he doesn't own a Firebird, I'd still like to see him involved in the leadership of the MIFC in some capacity, simply due to the fact that he has been around for years, has been to about 99% of the events we've had so far, and has helped immensely in making the MIFC what it is, and I know he will be one of the reasons this club continues to thrive. We are actively working to get him behind the wheel of a REAL Trans Am, rather than the die-cast that has become a fixture on his dashboard at MIFC events, but Kevin has been an active member since this club started in 2007, in my opinion, and I don't think he's planning on going anywhere anytime soon.

If you just want the Cliff's Notes, here they are:

VP: Mike S. (Akodo) - Because he's awesome.

Treasurer: Mike M. (MikeM) - Because he's awesome.

Web Design: Nobody, because I don't know anyone who's awesome at web design.

        Membership: Kevin L. (KTL711) - Because he's awesome.

Awwww - I'm blushing! And now I feel doubly guilty for not making it to the fall tour - we had a "kids issue" that prevented us from making it. I will def. be there for the next event though.

While I don't know if I deserved all those nice things Nick said, I will definitely 2nd his opinion of Kevin and Mike S. - both of them have been extremely supportive of trying to get the MIFC off the ground again, and I think the compliments are well deserved.

But, let me be the first to give Nick a round of applause! You, sir, have been busting your ass trying to make something of this club, and I for one truly appreciate it more than words can say. I just hope that more of the 'Bird-owning members of MIFbody can reward your hard work by joining us for future events! (And those Camaro folks should come too )

Keep up the great job Nick!!

I don't know if I deserve the kind words either, but I agree that it has been hard work trying to make things happen. I almost gave up when I saw the turnout for the Heritage Tour, especially after the countless hours spent on the phone, in the car, and on the internet, searching for things to do, planning the route, and trying to make arrangements. I'm glad I didn't, because I was able to learn what not to do for next year's event, and I promise, it will be 10x better than this year. I can only hope we have a better turnout next time.

I think I'm going to change the rules a bit. . . Since we don't have any "older" members with any web design talent, I will allow that position to be held by a new member. If we can't find someone to do it, the "old farts" will spend some time passing around the HTML book and scratching our heads before we give up and hire a professional. Then, I will either assume the responsibility of maintaining the site and updating with new content, or delegate to one (or more) of the MIFC leadership.

You know, as honored as I am to hear these kind words, I'm going to respectfully decline the nomination to the membership position just because my time is so constrained, and the MiFC really deserves someone who will give it full and enthusiastic representation. It's only fair, because I really want to see this thing take off and soar, and I don't think I can do it complete justice. I'm always ready to help the Board in a support position though.

Wow, thanks for the kind words, guys. I love to pitch in, and will accept whatever position I end up nominated to ,and give it my full attention.
I can second Mike M. for treasurer, he seems to be the most responsible of all of us when it comes to managing money. Who else bought their Trans Am off the lot, and still has it in pristine condition?
I would also like to second the support of Nick as president. With him at the helm, we have increased recruitment, had out first annual fall color tour, and have more to come. Besides, he is young enough to put in the long hours. And doesn't have kids to deal with, so no excuses for not showing up.

We need someone HOT for official recruiter. No, I mean HOTTER than me. Where are all the chicks with birds when you need them? Guys will pay attention to them more.

I can look into the web designer part, I know someone who used to do it, not sure if he is still. Let me look into it.

Can I nominate Ben for official mascot? We can get him a cute costume to wear at all of our outings.

IDK if Ben will like that. . . But we are accepting nominations for open positions, and we don't currently have a mascot, so. . .

Just make sure the costume hides his face, this club is family-friendly, and we want to make sure we don't scare the kiddies. lol j/k
