  • Firebird Club Meeting?

OK gang, if we really are a club we should have a meeting & make some plans for the year, right? Anyone got any ideas? I was thinking Woodward sometime in late March, do a little cruisin' and meet someplace to talk, but that's not really fair to the west siders. We could meet in Lansing again too, that worked out pretty well last year. I'm willing to host a meeting at my place too, but again I'm an "east sider." Ideas anyone? Ben, did you have anything in mind?

Absolutely OK! The club is open to anyone, of course it's targeted at 'Bird owners and enthusiasts. At the moment we have about 10 folks or so who are talking about meeting up at some events this year, and also we are planning on hosting a couple of our own events. We have a newsletter going and everything! It's pretty informal so far. It may get more formal later if we get enough regular event participation; that's certainly what we would like.

There are several threads in this section with the different activites. Last year we met in January to plan activities, and we had one "official" event (we judged at Camaro Superfest.) Plus, last year some members met up at events like the Spring Dustoff, Nesting of the Birds, etc. I thought it'd be a good time to kick off the discussion for this year, and get together with everyone again before the summer activities get underway.

I would like to go and every thing but my job and workin on the bird as seein i need a new paint job and major and i mean major under body work that needs to go into my car. I might not beable to fix her up and make her look 100% caus seein that $7.20 an hour job kinda sucks for tryin to save and fix the car. So idk i might tear her down this year and see whats up with alil more of the car seein as in the summer i can ride my bike or walk to work

This is definitely a problem you guys will have being statewide. But there should be some meetings every month or 2. I would suggest moving the meeting location around as much as possible to give all members from different areas a chance to come occasionally. Obviously this will be harder on the officers but I don't see this growing without doing something like this.

Yeah I agree with that. But that means we'll have to find a new place every time and thatll get hard.

What if we had the VP's of each side of the state setup a meeting location on there respective sides of the state at the same date and time. Then set up a speaker phone conference call between the two locations so that we can still collaborate with both sides of the state during the meeting.

My company does this all the time when we are collaborating with our Canada branch.

It would require order and some test runs but I think this would bee the best solution for everyone.

Edit: If the locations chosen had a computer with a broadband connection, we could use some think like this in each meeting location. Using Skype as the phone service would keep conference call costs down.

I think that it a bit much for a club just starting out, I mean we dont have the funds for a phone like this and if we do it should be spent on getting the clubs name out. I think we should just have two different meets one for the Eastside and one for the Westside. and the VP's and Pres. talks about the topics that should be covered during the meeting.

This is just my two cents.

The phone type was just an example. Any speaker phone would work.

I just think that when i comes down to making decisions and voting on thing, it will be pretty hard having separate meetings and no communication between each meeting.

If we were to have two completely separate meetings than it doesn't make any sense to have one club covering all of Michigan.

                      IMHO

That's where the Pres and the VPs need to communicate.

The VPs need to be strongly involved and able to provide direction for their area.

C'mon, people, we're not deciding where to put missile silos...the biggest thing you'll likely have to coordinate is where to have the yearly get-together...

Well, just to put in my two cents since I started this . . . I think when we have enough ppl to justify two meetings then we should do that, but for now we are just looking to make some plans for the year, plus personally I'd like to get together and hang with everybody now and then. I do lots of conference calling at work, and it's kinda lacking in vitamins if you know what I mean. This should be for fun, we're not trying to execute a business plan or anything Besides if we are only doing a meeting like this once a year a little driving isn't a big deal. I'm willing to drive to GR, and some of us from over here could certainly carpool - but I thought meeting in Lansing was a good compromise.

That is true Mike. We are not realy big enough for 2 meetings at this time.

I thing meeting in Lansing is a great idea for maybe a bi-monthy meeting durring the Nov-April months that we do not have car shows that we are attending. Durring the months that we do have planed car shows I thing we should have the meeting there maybe near the end or after the show.

I think Old Chicago worked out pretty good last time. I personaly don't mind the drive, in fact most of the car shows I go to are on the east side of the state.

You know guys, I think a bi-monthly or even a quarterly meeting will be enough at this point for you guys. Lansing is a good comprimise and during the show/cruise season there should be plenty of events to have a quick meeting at.

Any major issues or things to organize you guys can always do it here.
