  • What shocks to go with?

I need to put new shocks in and I *might* go with about a 1" lowering spring. What kind of shocks do you guys think I should go with? I don't want top of the line (read: can't afford top of the line) but I want something decent. Would the standard ol' Monroe shocks that Murrays/Advanced Auto sell work?

Craig (9T8W66) once told me: Go Koni or don't bother.

I'm not sure about the 4th gens, but if you lower a 3rd gen it's recommended to get LCA mounting relocation brackets...

Konis are nice Brian but they are expensive...wouldnt go with monroes or gabriels...just better shocks out there. Bilstein is a middle of the road shock, not to cheap not to expensive, yes Konis are better but for the price you pay for bilsteins you couldnt be happier...thats my opinion and thats also what I run on my car

I think I made my mind up seeing the KYB's that Casey has. Those look great (price wise) and the combination with the springs he has looks good too.

I'd hold off and get a set of konis when you can afford them. I think you can pick up a set of 4th get fronts and 3rd gen rears for just under $700.

If you only want a 1 inch drop I wouldn't bother with springs. I got a 3/4 inch drop up front by using the S/A koni shocks on the lower perch.

You can drop the back 1 inch by using the heater hose mod. Currently I have the stock isolator out back. I liked the stance with my staggered wheels.

If your buying springs and shocks that's going to cost more than $700 anyway. You should at least consider Koni shocks on stock springs.

Don't forget to include the cost of getting new front shock perches. They often get destroyed when you cut the old shocks off.

I am going against the crowd and saying don't other with Koni's. I had them on my car and hated them. The ride was horrible and it was even stock height. My car rides amazing with my KYB AGX's and I even have a 1.2" drop on my car.

I can't remember if I sold my Konis or not when I took them off. If I still have them I'd make you a hell of a deal.

Well, too late. I ordered the shocks from Summit and then dropped a bomb on Creight's site with some other purchases I think I'm going to be sick with how much money I just spent.

They take some getting use to. Once you figure out how to adjust them. It makes a world of difference. Tire pressure also needs to be dead on with these shocks. I can't wait to start driving the T/A again. I miss the feel the shocks give the car.

Nice! By the way, if the LT1 shock mounts are anything like the LS1 shock mounts, be prepared to buy a new mount for the passenger side, mine (and just about everyone else from what I've seen) was practically welded to the shock rod it was so rusted; there was no saving it.

I ended up buying a new one (Monroe brand) from Pep Boys for $50 out the door. I found them online for anywhere from $70-$100.

Thats very common. I paid $100 at NAPA. I should have done more shopping around I guess. I was told to put grease over the nut and threads before you reinstall them. Wish I had done that, but I didn't find that out until after.
