  • Anybody here do SCCA solo racing?

Next year I want to attend the SCCA spring training and go t a few autocross events. Anyone here participate in any SCCA events? Any tips for success?

I have participated in the past. Plan on competing at one of the fall events at Belle Isle this fall. I geuss tip one would be just to go watch one and talk with the competitors. Normally are a great bunch of people.

I did it a few times about 13 years ago in my.......gasp, mustang 5.0. It was a lot of fun. Best tip for sucess............................................ Just have fun, lol. But I will say, IMHO, solo racing is harder on a car than drag racing. That whooped the crap out of my poor old stang, lol. Good luck, have fun. Eric L

I cant bring myself to do it to the SS. But I would like to try it with my K2500 Suburban. No, im not joking................................I think that would kick ass. Besides, you have to remember, I drive a Kenworth everyday, so wouldnt that make a Suburban KINDA like a sports car, lol.

That sounds like something I would do. Are those turbo caravans quick at all?

I believe Doug was actually a local SCCA Champion back in the day.

I even have a 1978 Car Craft magazine that has a little blurp about him and his SOLO II racing

It was actually the West Michigan Sports Car Council, F-stock champion, but thanks for bringing it up, Ray. (The West Michigan Sports Car Council included the Camaro Club (WMCC), the Furrin Group, The Grand Valley Corvette Council, the West Michigan Region - Porsche Club of America, the Corvair Club and the West Michigan Region of the SCCA)

Thanks, Ben. Solo II/Autocross racing is definately a blast. Way more fun than drag racing (IMHO) and much easier on your car than drag racing. Banging, slamming and sliding your car around is the slow way, smooth is fast in Solo II. It's hard on tires, and somewhat on brakes, but pretty easy on rest of the mechanical stuff.

when i ran autocross with brian a few weeks ago I was actually quite fearful of my driveline holding up due to constant wheelhop. I need to get a torque arm and get that under control!
