    grease & zerit fittings
Did the spring oil change and was also giving it a grease job and have a few zerit fitting that will not take grease. I replaced them (the fittings ) but still will not take grease. I guess not much else I can do ?

    any thoughts.

I had one of the zerk fittings clog up on the 81 some years ago and just left it.

They've been phased out as being more bad-than-good in newer cars...it's been determined that the newer grease used today is more abrasive and can actually cause damage as opposed to the old stuff.

Wouldn't worry about it at this time.

Check the nozzle on your grease gun.....if the nozzle can't seal onto the grease zerk then it won't push grease in.

grease gun works on others you can see and hear it.
I replaced the bad ones thinking the pin may have stuck or full of crap.
And I tried to back it up some what. (not bottoming out when tightening the new zerit )

I will do what Jeff said and not worry about it.

I took zert out . Picked hole with drill looked to unblock crap . Then used a propane touch to heat knuckle . got it hot to touch and put Zert back in and still NO LUCK
Guy at work told me to try this . Seemed like a good idea.

does the ball or pin push in at all?

could just be a bad fitting

Yes And I have two of them that are not taking grease. Pitman arm and what looks to be the same thing (but not) on the other side.

then it's probably a bad arm - you could try taking the fitting out and flushing the inside using penetrating oil

you would want to relieve pressure on the joints before flushing it out then reinstall the fitting and add grease

otherwise just replace the arm - it shouldnt be that expensive

Just out of curiosity, I did a google search on grease fittings. I always wondered why they were called Zerk fittings ............ ya learn something new every day!

                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zerk_fitting

                      Way to go Oscar!

I was looking for a cross section view or something. I figured they were just a simple ball and seat check valve type of thing.
RIP Doug,You will always be remembered

Sometimes it helps to have a buddy turn the steering wheel while you try to shoot grease in them.
