Driving the Black Lake with the New Camaro
Hi,
This is going to be long...
Tuesday, we got an e-mail from Scott Settlemire asking
if we had a Black IROC. I e-mailed back and said yes,
he e-mailed me back with a proposition. They had a reporter
coming to do an article on the Concept Car. His first car
was a 1985 black IROC, and GM wanted to give him a thrill.
And If we would meet Scott at the Heritage Center, and let this reporter drive are car, he would let us follow in a 2006 Vette.
And we could be involved in the whole experience.
This is a no brainier!!! Of course we said yes!!
We drove down Thursday Morning, we were early, so Scott
took us through the Heritage Center, and asked if we would
like to see the toy box were the other 200 cars were stored.
Another no brainier!!
From there we met up with the reporter, and several of the design team, and we were handed the keys to the corvette, red, convertible and real fast. We gave our keys to the reporter, and off we go.
Drove about 35 miles or so to Milford Proving Grounds.
What a sight, this is an awesome place, a city all by itself
on a road named General Motors Blv. We were escorted in
to the grounds given our passes and started into the complex.
We went though several check points, before we came to a building
next to this huge piece of pavement, called the Black Lake 65 acres of
pavement to be exact. They call it Black Lake because from the ski,
and the ground when it rains it looks like a lake.
After being driven around and showed several very cool top secret
things. We went in the building, and there she was....
The Camaro, it looks even better when you are that close. The goose
bumps were back. They took it out and took our car with it.
the reporter wanted to take pictures side by side. It was
awesome, after stopping and putting it back in the barn
because of rain, several times, they finally got the pictures they needed.
The design team were all getting there first chance to drive
it, and I was almost to scared to ask. But, I did, and Scott
said sure. Being a good wife I let Gib drive, (that was really
hard), but I did not know if they would let both of us drive
so I let him. We could only go about 45 or 50 but the sound
of the exhaust, and the power of the car were again awesome.
It started raining and it was very windy so we had to take
her back in. I want to tell you, I have never seen, or rode,
in anything that cool.
The design team were like proud fathers, they were grinning
ear to ear. Eager for our response, and eager for our input.
They are dedicated on bringing this car to us. And from what
I could tell, without alot of changes. GM is putting alot of
thought into the New Camaro.
I still could not find anything I didn't like about it.
I would like to thank GM and Scott for giving us this
opportunity!!! It was a great day, and very unforgettable.
Told you it was going to be long
