  • Cat

I need a new cat, my factory one is rattling bad.

I heard I should get a car sound or magnaflow cat, there better flowing and sound better. But ive also heard that even these cats can rattle brand new. And it depends who you get it from, any advice.

Are the carsound/magnaflow ones the same brand or are they actually 2 separate products?

i had the same issues with my stock cat, it is likely just small pebbles gettin caught in the shield of hte cat rattling them around, that is what mine was, look into gettin 100 bucks to scrap your stock cat, you should be able to get that much at least, i went with a high flow 3 inch bullet cat which is basically like not having a cat, but I have forced induction and didnt want much restriction. If you car is stock id just see if it is for sure that shield rattling the pebbles or something loose in your exhaust setup. A high flow cat is sort of a waste for a fairly stock v6..

I already checked the shield, theres a pretty good dent in the cat itself so im guessing it knocked the stuff inside loose. My local muffler man wants like 279 to put a new cat on.

wow 279!!!! i had mine on my truck replaced for $80... still had a rattle after. so i took it back. they said they found a broken 02 sensor. they thought that could be the problem because they figured after it warmed up the metal expanded and held it tight. cause it was only rattling when it was cold. they replaced that and no more rattle. so check for other loose parts like that too.

um hes trying to HOSE you, you can find magnaflow cats on ebay for like 50 tops, no way in heck it would be 229 to simply install a cat, look around... and you should be able to get around 100 out of the stocker at the right scrapyard i cant see how you would have to pay any over what you get for the stocker to have a new one installed.

279 including his cat. IDK how much just to install one I bring in.

I just did the O2 behind that cat not to long ago, 2 months before it went into storage tops. And if I tap on it with a screwdriver it rattles so im assuming its the culprit.

Just to replace the stock cat which magnaflow one do I want, is there a model number?

is your stock exhaust 2.25? you would need one of that size then, i think there was one on ebay of 2.25 in/out

google and camarov6.com are your friends for that one, i know mine was 2.25 stock but I had the w68 dual exhaust with a flo pro muffler in the place of the quiet stocker, you can buy it from me for 50 bucks if ya want lol otherwise I might just keep it in case my car is super rare one day.

if you are planning on getting a catback then get a 3"in/3"out cat and hook it up at the same time with the catback. Just get an adaptor then to go to 2.5"out if you are going 2.5" catback.

and yes, carsound's are the best for our cars as replacements
