  • And the back is away from the floor, so no need to remove / protect the carpet?

    • Yeah, if I'm thinking correctly of where it is in the car, it should be rear of the rear seats, and then down a good bit. Probably a solid 3" to the floor boards where you weld it.

      • Went to check out Brian's new Wild Cherry '22 Camaro (6.2L, 6-speed manual), so I figured, with the weather being so damn nice this afternoon, it'd be ideal to take the Camaro out for probably one more drive for the year. Decided to fill it up on the way home (a "best tank" of...11.6 MPG, haha), go to leave and..."zing"....starter decided it was no longer engaging. Um.

Luckily, Meijer is about 2 miles from our house, so my wife drove me over a hammer and a combination of that and moving around the starter wires (thankfully my longtubes are ceramic coated, so they were merely warm while I was working right next to them) allowed the car to start again and I finished driving it home. Go figure, it's always something with this car.

          • Oh yay, winter projects! I always have these delusions of grandeur regarding having all my projects done on the car come spring...and that seems to never happen anymore. It did (mostly) when I did all the suspension upgrades, and I now look back and wonder how the hell I did that.

              • Dug into the starter for a bit today before I had to head down to my mom's for dinner, and then up to Staples. The stud that the positive wire connects to was oddly loose (wire nut to stud was tight, but the stud itself wasn't tight into the solenoid), but I don't think that would be the cause, since that wire also spins the starter - much more voltage used there. So I continued with pulling the old one.

                This looks...kinda nasty:

                • Yes, very much past it's prime. I think you will find that the new one to be a huge improvement.

                  • Yeah, I was a bit surprised to see that when I pulled it off - to me, that tells me that the inside of that solenoid doesn't look good and is why it is sticking. I'll try and remove it to take a look at it and see if it's truly gross inside.

                      • Got these today - Dapper Lighting LED Sevens - black housing, OE-style glass lenses. These should look awesome - more modern and updated, but still fit the look of an older car and really, really improve the lighting:

Now you HAVE TO work on it this winter!

                          • I sure hope I can find the motivation to do so!

I'll want to get some good comparison shots of headlight patterns so I need to figure out how I want to do that.
