  • Mystery electrical module found in passenger kick panel...ideas?

So, I'm pulling the engine out, and got to the part where I have to disconnect the wiring harness connections (C210, C220, and C230) from the passenger kick panel. I noticed something really strange though...there's this mystery module that's tapped into the harness and I have no clue what it is. There's 4 wires that come out and hook into the ground, 1 that ties into a 12v, and the other two tie into the dark green/white wire in C220 (from my research it's the VSS output). So basically, this module is sitting in the middle of the vss signal. Does anyone have any idea what the heck it is?! I'm stumped!!! There's a picture below (sorry for the horrible quality, phone was being stupid)

if its really tied into vss line, did your speedo and tach work ok. Only other thing i can think of would be for a external tach. but you need more wires.

Don't think so, since the only wire that it's really connected to is VSS...

I'm wondering if it some kind of speedo fix module? Maybe?

Could be, but why the need for 6/7 wires? Hard to tell how many are there

Well 4 of them go right to ground, 1 for 12v, then the 2 that put the module in the middle of the Dark Green/White wire.

I think Larry nailed it on the head - though I'm not 100% sure if it's the SLP unit, I think it's a speedo calibrator.

Speedo calibrators only need 4 wires. Why does this unit need 4 grounds??

Lol weird, it wasn't until Brian mentioned "Larry's post" until I actually saw that there were more posts, somehow I skipped right over them lol.

Yep, a quick google found me this: http://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-mo...need-help.html and the picture attached looks just like it.

Yep, speedo and tach work fine (although speedo is slightly off at times, I wonder if this is going bad and that's why).

Now, I have the software to tune the car (including the speed calibration)...do I even need this? If I change it in the PCM does it affect the speedo? Because it's currently set up with the tire/gear combo I have.

No idea, bad design where there's 4 separate ground wires? lol

And yes Fox, it does appear to be a flux capacitor that isn't quite fluxing....

With a 94-95 you can use TunerCats to calibrate the speedo.
