  • Passenger Side Stealth Box (pic request)

Anyone rockin' any of the passenger side stealth boxes? Was hoping for some pics to see how they are shaped. I am debating between trying to make one, or just picking up an ebay one for $75 shipped.

Are you asking specifically for a convertible or the hatchback/coupe one?

Really, any of them...I don't think anyone makes a "vert only" box.

I see that Kee Audio has one in their convertible package (HERE), which looks to be THIS one...which claims coupe only.

...Except that it also looks to be the same one a guy on LS1Tech is running, so it DOES work in a 'vert.

Basically, I was looking to get an idea on how the various mfg's were shaping the sides and rear of the box to get it to tuck away nicely. I am debating between picking up the one in the pics above ($75 shipped) or trying to get really creative and see if I can tuck the enclosure back into the quarter better. The box shown is $75 shipped and at .75 cu ft fits the mfg spec perfectly for the sub I am considering. In the interest of time (which I have very little of lately), I should probably just pick up the prefab box being that it's only $75, and if I want to get fancy down the road, I can pick away at making something more "custom".

Hmm, that doesn't seem like a bad option and it still leaves room in the trunk for you. How much room is on the shelf where the amp is mounted in the pics? Is that an option of getting a box in there? I have a stealth box that goes on the driver side rear qtr at home i can snap pics when I get home if you'd like.

Thanks for the reply - I appreciate the thoughts. Unfortunately, no room on that shelf - my amp is there as well, and when the top folds down it barely clears the amp. I'd love to do a driver's side box to retain the spare tire, but I can't get any assurance that the cavity there is the same on a coupe and more importantly, on a vert the hydraulic pump for the top is in that location...I'd have to relocate the hydraulic pump (which I really considered heavily).

I don't think I need the spare for most of the driving I do, which is locally. When I go on a trip, I've verified that I can fit the donut and the tonneau bag in the trunk well. I am thinking I'd like to put a nutzert/rivnut in the rear wall of the trunk well or the deck lid latch bracket to secure the donut when I do want to take it with me. I'll also plan on picking up/building an "inflator kit" that I can keep in the vehicle when I don't have the spare with me.

Wow, you've been thinking about this alot huh...Lol! I think the best option is as you described, using the box above, and loading your spare when you go on a trip in the well. That way you can also get the most airspace for your subbox/subwoofer. Alot cheaper and alot less headache than moving your hydraulic pump to fit a subwoofer, well atleast I think so.

Agreed - I literally have spent a couple of hours out in the garage moving shit around in the trunk, measuring, calculating...fact of the matter is, our trunk layout is completely horrid! I could get by better in a coupe, with with a 'vert options are very limited if one wants to use the tonneau and spare tire and run a 10"+ speaker. I'd love to run the 12 that I have back there, but I just can't find a feasible way to fit it.

This is what I had purchased the car with...it was kinda cool from an aesthetic perspective and I hadn't planned on changing it as it sounded decent, but once I got the tonneau I realized I had no way to carry it with me. I then also realized how shoddily built this setup actually was, and it was nowhere close to matching the specs Memphis recommends:

FWIW, Subthump's passenger side stealthbox says it fits all 93-02 f-bodies. I'm confident this includes 'verts since their driver's side box says coupes only.

That said, I have a driver's side box by them that hasn't been installed yet if you wanted to swing by and see if it'll fit.

Thanks for the offer - there's no way the driver's side will fit unless I relocate the pump and cut off the stud it mounts to.

I ended up getting ancy and ordered the ebay box shown in the pic I posted above and a 10" Infinity Reference from Amazon. Ebay box was 73 shipped and the Reference was $62 shipped (it's a $100 sub on Crutchfield). So, for $135 I'll have a plug and play setup before I head to St Ignace next week Worst case, I am not happy with the box or it doesn't fit and I sent it back. They take returns, so I'd just be out shipping cost.

Sweet!! The box you have looks pretty sweet too!! I had also been contemplating getting the passenger side box as well, but the single 10" in the driver rear qtr sounds pretty good for only being one sub! Hope it works out for you dude!!

                        Thanks!

The current setup looked pretty cool, but it literally was a piece of 3/4" MDF adhered across the trunk well with construction adhesive. They did dynamat the interior of the trunk well.

Pretty pumped - the box and speaker should be arriving tomorrow. Can't wait to get it in and see how it sounds. Hope I am not disappointed!
